I don't think I had even half the systems I have now when I was your age. I started getting a lot of retro systems in...2010? I only had a Game Gear and Genesis growing up, then an N64 and GBC for Pokemon/Ocarina of Time/Mario 64. Parents never got me a Saturn or Dreamcast, so I kinda fell off of Sega gaming for a long time...but always still loved Sonic and other Sega IPs. I was actually firmly in the Nintendo fandom for a while in the Gamecube era, but now I...am not, I'll still get their systems for the handful of exclusives I like, but really, I get much more use out of my Sony systems nowadays, heck, even my Sega systems, despite there being obviously no new system out. I only got an Xbox One for pretty much only Sunset Overdrive, which was a super fun game, but I haven't really played it much since. The last game I played on my Wii U was Earthbound Beginnings, which was fun, I just got lost in Magicant and never bothered to try to find my way around. I did love the heck out of Earthbound, I got the cart with my SNES in 2005 for a mere $50...which is a lot less than it's going for now. Most of my Saturn collection is worth more than that, still...

For a second I forgot that there were both 1 and 2 8/16 bit games on 3DS. There was Sonic 1 on the Genesis, and then a completely different 1 came out on Sega Master System, then got ported to Game Gear (which is the 3DS VC one). I think Sonic 2 8 bit actually came out on Master System first, then Genesis (again, completely different game), then on Game Gear either before that or after that (3DS VC) Then of course, Triple Trouble is on 3DS VC, which was a Game Gear exclusive. Sonic Chaos is missing from 3DS VC, and I do really like it, but it's pretty stupidly easy (I can beat it in like 30-40 minutes). Sonic 1 8 bit was actually the last Sega Master System game to come out in America, 2 and Chaos did come out on it, but over in Europe.

Anyway, 1 and 2 Genesis are on 3DS on the eshop as...1 and 2 3D, I think. I think I prefer the mobile versions, actually, but I don't know if you'd have a way to play those with a controller, the only way I did is my Shield Portable has an actual gamepad, and it runs on android. The 3D versions are still really good, I just like 2 mobile's Hidden Palace addition (which was one of the cut zones)

Wow, 132 hours! I’d like to give Xenoblade Chronicles a go at some point, but long play times like that kind of scares me off from diving into it. Heck, I’m only around 7 hours into Final Fantasy 4 and that was over the past weeks. Great job with the second quest! Back in the day, I entered my name as Zelda and jumped straight to the second quest and got quite lost. I never knew that Link was able to pass through walls until I was older, so I think I got stuck in Level 2.

I’m also sorry to report that I did not play Kirby: Planet Robobot yet. I intended to play it during my past vacation, but there was a lot to see and do during the trip and I only played Final Fantasy 4 during down times, which there weren’t many.

You are just unbelievable. Well you know what? Now, I am going to play some video games. Mostly Fallout. Probably Underrail afterwards. So there.

Funny, I just watched a video about the Zelda series, too: [Link] The Zelda series really is about nostalgia, maybe even moreso than Dragon Warrior; it's a real toss-up, since both cling so desperately to tradition you'd think they were vault-dwellers. That said, while Dragon Warrior clings to tradition in the - heh - traditional sense, Zelda does so in more of a meta sense. A lot of Medieval-themed Fantasy games have their ultimate weapon as some ancient sword, revered through the ages, and the Master Sword is now exactly that, but not a legendary ancient weapon in the world of Hyrule; it is a legendary weapon that is ancient in the minds of the fans and the lineage of the series, and the Hylian Shield is much the same, though less old. The days of old aren't the days when Hyrule was first forged by the hands of Din, but the days of 16-bit graphics. Zelda 2 was different from its predecessor, but so was Mario 2; so was Castlevania 2. In the days of the NES, there were a lot of sequels that were very different from the first game (a lot of them being the second in the series), and I think that a lot of people forget that, possibly because the third entries in the series are so revered; Zelda just has the misfortune of not having its third entry on the same system, so there's a sort of a disconnect in the minds of the masses.

I played the First and Second Quests back-to-back when the game first came out, and that's a long time ago for my old brain and already shitty memory, but I seem to remember them taking a very long time to finish. I did have the Tips and Tactics book, but that's not GameFAQs; it only tells you so much, and only has maps for about half of the dungeons in the First Quest; it has nothing for the Second Quest. On top of that, I don't think the maps tell you where anything is, either; they're just a reference for the shape of the world or the dungeon. I remember marking a lot of things on them in pen. I think my sister has the book, now. Wait... Level 8 is green!? Which the hell one am I thinking of that's gray and shaped like a big spiral?

As frustrated as I tend to get with humanity as a whole, I tend to see the good in people, even where most others do not.

Well yeah, you were on the smaller team so you were always matched up with Ketchup because their was never a shortage of them. I fought Mayo maybe 5 out of the 20 matches I played and the rest were all Ketchups. It feels like I did not get an adequate chance to fight for my team. That's kinda bogus.

I'm not saying that it should count as a full win when we win against our own team, but it does defeat the purpose of choosing a side if the only people you meet are on the same side lol.

I can't remember the last time I played on my actual GBA...despite obviously being around when it came out, I didn't get one until the GBA SP came out. Not sure why, really, probably cause of the backlight/color screen that I sorely missed from the Game Gear. But I'd guess it was probably the Castlevania Double Pack, namely Aria of Sorrow (I think I played that after Harmony of Dissonance, at least)

Honestly, a lot of that is probably PC version glitches. I didn't notice any of those when I played through on PS3, not have I heard anyone else list those...but the getting stuck in walls one, I can buy not being a PC version glitch, because that happened to me a lot in my vast, vast number on 3&K replays. The levels in 3&K don't seem bad at all to me, but then again, I've obviously been playing it pretty much yearly at the very least since it came out (it's probably my most replayed game), but if you want simplistic Sonic levels, play Sonic Chaos on like...Wii VC (it's not on 3DS VC, even though all the other Sonic games are, and I don't understand why they never put that on there), or Sonic 1 8 bit (which is, but also has some tricky parts for beginners). I'd say Sonic 1 for Genesis is actually one of the harder ones, if only because you don't get lives from points, there's a lot less hidden extra lives, and in that and 2, the final boss fights you with no rings, so if you get hit, you die. I'd say Sonic 3&K actually might be the easiest of the three, but you could argue 2 is the easiest. I'd recommend playing Sonic 1 and 2 8 bit on Wii VC or something, since the 3DS Game Gear versions have a smaller screen, and this creates a huge problem mostly on 2 8 bit. But then again, maybe play 1 on the 3DS VC, because the Game Gear version actually seems easier. Also Sonic Triple Trouble (also on the 3DS VC) is pretty damn easy. So is Sonic Chaos...maybe even easier.

Oh yeah, I completely forgot about CD, it's probably the easiest, aside from Chaos and Triple Trouble, aside from a few parts later on.

Sorry about the somewhat delayed response, but thanks for the Sonic Generations titles!

I have played like half of those Sonics long ago. But just to refresh myself, I will replay them alongside the ones I haven't yet. I already have Sonic 1 for Steam, but I'm waiting until I get a USB Genesis gamepad for a better experience (Perhaps I can use that for Generations too?). I also plan to Let's-Play all these games.

Better start considering getting more consoles! Might get a Gamecube or PS2 as well as a XB360 (Three consoles I had the idea of getting for a while) to play those later games.

Playing video games? On a site that's about playing video games!? You've crossed the line, Missy; GO TO YOUR ROOM! ...and play some video games...

Yeah, if you're going to sell nostalgia, it has to be something for which people are nostalgic, and sadly, when people think of sidescrolling Zelda games, they're more likely to think of [Link] They do outnumber Adventure of Link 2 to 1, after all. Well, I played it back when it was new, and that was lost on me, too, so don't worry about it. The differences that jumped out at me the most were that the Ropes glow and the Stalfos have shooty blades. Oh, and those goddamn Red Bubbles take away your sword forever. Oh, and those FUCKING walls that you're somehow supposed to know that you can just WALK THROUGH. Yeah, game, just change the goddamn rules without warning; I just love figuring that shit out. But hey, GameFAQs is a thing, and so is VGMaps, so you have nothing to fear. Shiva, except Level 8.

I have; been around a quite a long time. Long enough to stop wondering why all ancient beings in fiction are in a constant state of facepalm over the collective humanity. Been on both sides of the fence: hating others for what they are, as well as being repeatedly beaten into the ground for being what I am. Been angry at humanity for being stupid humans, as well as having been a stupid human. I've found that the best thing to do is just sit back and watch this beautiful cosmic shitstorm we call existence, and let people find their own way, offering gentle guidance when they need it most. People your age excite me, though. Yeah, you have social justice warriors, but most of you are open-minded and laid-back about it. I feel like real change - good change - isn't so far off, sometimes.

Oh no, it's good; I was just saying that I'm probably being biased and unfair about it. And hey, I'm flaky and only sporadically reliable, but I'm more than willing to be a Beta tester whenever you'd like!

Hey, I'm Lilith, been gaming since Game Gear/Genesis in '91/'92. My favorite IPs are...Yakuza, Sonic, Resident Evil, Diablo, and Neptunia. Favorite consoles are...Dreamcast, Saturn, Genesis, PS4, SNES, and my emulation consoles (Shield/Retro Freak/RetroPie).

How'd you like Sonic Generations? It's easily my favorite Sonic game since 3&K (are you liking that?), though Sonic Mania may end up beating Generations. So much classic Sonic to play for the first time...I'm jealous. Almost everything Sonic I've played one way or another.

Oh. I see you've beaten Sonic Generations! I've been wanting to play that game for years, however, I have been restrained by myself to play all the other Sonics which Generations mixes up before doing so. I actually wanted to play for the maximum enjoyment, you see.

I was wondering you can help me name every game in the medley of Generations, but not every level. You know what I mean? I mean I could find a list online, but I want to avoid spoilers and stuff (I remember running into such spoiler with the Sonic Adventure Truck which looked horrifyingly more deadly in Generations than the classic with all the weapons it had, IIRC. For shame). So can you list me the games? Thank you!

There's something very special about Zelda 2; it has a neat aesthetic that's never really been matched or even imitated, as far as I've seen. I'm always glad to see someone else, especially from a younger generation, who has enjoyed it, as well. Best of luck on the Second Quest. For years, I'd thought that I didn't like the original Legend of Zelda; that it was clunky, awkward, and filled with god-awful design. A relatively recent playthrough has shown me that I was actually just thinking of the Second Quest. It does have an interesting way of guiding you to different things, based on your knowledge and memory of the First Quest, but there is SO much bullshit. It does have a lot of potential, though; some interesting twists on familiar enemies.

Yeah, it's like when Ellen Page came out. It was such a big deal, because it basically has to be; we have to shower people with love and acceptance before we can bring ourselves out of the pit we've been in for centuries. And I do enjoy the occasional indulgent piece, but the thing is that I feel there would be a wider, more mainstream appeal if it were leveled out a bit, and that's really what we're going for. Being as old as I am, I've seen our culture swing back and forth between super liberal and super conservative so many times that I just want to grab ahold of the collective humanity and shake them, screaming, "WOULD YOU STOP THIS GODDAMNED PENDULUM IN THE MIDDLE, ALREADY!?" Or, at least I did; the desire was much stronger in my younger, angrier days. The cynicism that comes with age has shifted me from misanthropic JRPG villain to... I'm not sure, exactly.

Yes, but you know what's tricky? Pizza sauce. Yeah, a lot of times, mold grows on the lid, but sometimes, it's sneaky, and hides in the middle. Shredded cheese has a similar problem.

Autoscrolling sections have always been a thorn in my side, and I think that might've been part of my problem. I don't care for time limits, either; I like to proceed at my own pace. Well, hey, don't let me tell you what your vision should be; if that's what you were going for, then by all means, you go to it, Girlie! Keep up the good work!
