Colours and Generations were awesome and the day stages in Unleashed were amazing as well. As for the portable Sonic games, they fared MUCH better during the 2000s compared to their main console counterparts (and compared to the 90s when most portable Sonic games were crap and the main console games were good), so it's not like good Sonic games haven't existed for over a decade or so. The Advance Trilogy & the Rush games in particular are among the best Sonic games made, but you rarely see people talk about them (or ANY of the portable games for that matter). Even Rivals 2 was surprisingly fun.

That said, the 2000s were a SHITSHOW for Sonic and that shitshow continues to this day, mostly thanks to masterpieces like Shadow The Hedgehog and the lenegdary Sonic '06.

Sure, at around the late 2000s Sega started alleviating the damage caused by Sonic '06 (which actually goes further back with the fall of the Dreamcast), but then Sonic Boom came out and if you take one look at that game, you'll see why people are calling it Sonic '14 or Sonic '06 2. Thankfully the cartoon did better & it was just a spinoff, so now we've got Forces and Mania on the horizon.

As cool as the new games look, though, I honestly hardly care about Sonic anymore. It feels like for every good game, Sega makes like 3 shitty ones or feels like they HAVE to add a gimmick or make a new character (at least they realised that was both pointless and redundant at this point, which is why there's a character creator in Forces). Even Unleashed was debatably good, considering half of it wasn't even a Sonic game.

I have nothing to look forward to in Sonic, so I'll just play the old ones and keep wishing Sega hadn't made a shitload of stupid decisions during the 90s which put them in the situation they are today. Maybe I will get Forces and Mania eventually, however, so here's your light of hope in these dark times.
Are you feeling lonely?
