Bak’laag Bites Back

So… I have a Nintendo Switch! No games yet, though.

Backlog Beaten: November 19, 2010
Herald of Bak'laag: 500+ unfinished games
Treasure Hunter: 1000+ games
Yeah Persona 5 was a total blast. Spent pretty much every minute of my gaming time on it, though I didn't start right when I got it because I had Mass Effect and Kingdom Hearts and Dragon Quest still ongoing, but it was still a solid month.

I have a lot of SMT still left to play... I've still gotta do SMT 4 & Apocalypse, but I want to play SMT 3 before I do that and I still haven't really started that. Then there's the other PS2 SMT games, the Digital Devil Sagas and the Raidou Kuzunoha games, though I finished the first Raidou game. Plus there's Devil Survivor 2 (or more likely its remake), and the two Persona 2s, and Persona Q, though I could probably finish that off fairly quickly as I'm decently far into it. But if those are all gonna take a month each... yeesh . And that's not even future games like Strange Journey Redux...

Yeah I beat the boss I was stuck on (didn't even need to grind, just be smarter and luckier when fighting) but this tower has a bunch of platforming and Xenogears is not good at being a platformer game. It's probably gonna get buried again though with the FFXII remake (which is re-confirming its status as my favourite Final Fantasy game) and Breath of the Wild.

I feel like VII didn't age particularly well. The sprites of previous games hold up fine in my opinion, but the early blocky 3D looks... well it looks bad. They learned a LOT for VIII and the stylized graphics style of IX made those two age better.

Ah whoops I suppose the should have given it away.

Shadow Link from Zelda 2? He's been there forever. I haven't done an update on the banner aside from season changing since last September. Should maybe do that actually.

Looks like we both picked up Switches recently. That's not going to help my progress at Xenogears at all.

Consider Yourself a Hero: Majority of games are beaten
I'm feeling a bit burned out on SMT and Persona right now. I think I'm gonna have to come back to Apocalypse in a while. I am definitely excited for Strange Journey though, I never got to play the original on the DS. Although I'm slightly intimidated by it.

I'm not exactly sure how far in I am. Just got through the fairy forest for the second time. Game is great so far though.

(sorry again for the late reply, i had to finish my thesis)

I would say yes, but depends, i recently searched and found the cheapest complete copy of the PS1 Ghost In The Shell game, still went for 60 bucks total. But this was a rare and niche title, i also managed to do "miracles" with 30 bucks when buying old titles. Also, depends on what you want and when you want them, because there is always a phase where some consoles (and it's games, obviously) are old but not old enough to be considered "retrò", so you don't see absurd prices like you now for Super Nintendo titles brought upon by the... assholes (is what they are) that inflate the price for old stuff, even if it's not THAT rare.

I've seen you haven't updated the entry, i do hope you have fun with Hyrule Warriors Legends. I actually had a friend that really loved Dynasty Warriors on PS2 (i'm guessing it was 2 or 3), most people were introduced like that it seems.

Actually, i think it was Hyrule Warriors that got the series more spotlight by just using the Zelda name (and DQ Heroes helped), there were a lot of musou crossover before, with One Piece, Gundam, Fist Of The North Star, or even recently a musou-like based on Kamen Rider came out for PS4 (only in japan, understendable, way too niche to import). Or titles like Fate Extella, came out last year.

Yeah, you can say it's a cult/niche genre (not surprising then to see some many crossover with anime series), always been like that, with a minor but dedicated following. Nintendo saying yes to a Zelda and Fire Emblem musou helped a lot in making them more known and less despised.

I never paid the Geometry Wars series much attention, i got Retro Evolved for Steam years ago, played it for some time, but then gave up since it was simply high-score based, with no sense of progress, no story mode.

Yeah, juggling humans and knowing where and when to move to avoid that even a single one dies is frustrating, but damn it's so gratifying when you do it.

Well, Atari isn't dead like i kinda hoped (due to trash it made in recent years seemed like the last gasps of a company in ruin for decades), with a new console from them launching soon, but i doubt they will modernize their classics again, or that they would do it right.

Enjoy that Lovecraft stories collection, not a bad selection.

Consider Yourself a Hero: Majority of games are beaten
Treasure Hunter: 1000+ games
On Fire: 3 beat or complete in a row
Dragon Quest for me strikes precisely the right balance between easy to get into (a keep it simple, stupid approach) and yet depth enough if you're looking for it. Also the fact that exploration can yield you a *lot* of goodies, but not exploring every pixel of every map won't leave you stranded. And the fact that if you do get in trouble, grinding *will* get you of it, that's always welcome. I don't necessarily want RPGs to require a grind, but to have that option available if I need it is appreciated. DQ consistenly provides for me, so grabbing this DQ7 remake when it became available was a no-brainer.

I do think I'm coming up on the endgame before too long. In terms of fragments found, this has to be one of the final non-postgame areas. Maybe one or two more and then the endgame. I expect I'll hit 70 hours, but probably not 80. I don't intend to do much strictly optional stuff, bonus bosses and what have you. There's other games waiting.

Rise of the Necromancer for Diablo 3 is releasing next Tuesday. So yes, it's soon. I'm getting it, obviously, been a Diablo fanboy since the beginning. When I'l have time to play through it again is a bigger question.

And yes, heard of those three of course. Etrian Odyssey V will definitely happen for me. Radiant Historia and Strange Journey are pretty recent for me, so feels a bit early to get into remakes. But maybe later, especially if they are well received. Also, I've gotten interested in Ever Oasis, there's a demo on the eShop now and the game releases tomorrow. Heard of that one yet?

On Fire: 3 beat or complete in a row
Confused: Playing 10+ games at once
Hi! So sorry I didn't get back to you. Yup, the early PS3 goes back to the PS1 in terms of compatibility.

I definitely got sidetracked from FFVII by Breath of the Wild. Then I had to go into hospital for a bit (nothing scary) and got waylaid from finishing Breath of the Wild. That's okay though, the DLC will prompt me to return to it. I actually can't remember what part of Disc 2 I was on - it seems to be very amorphous which might be why I couldn't recall it. I know I did Wutai (is that Disc 2?) and I was flying about mucking around with Chocobos and Enemy Skill Materia.

Currently I am very in love with my Switch. Apparently I've clocked more than 180 hours on Switch Minecraft alone, compared to 135 for Breath of the Wild. Switch Minecraft's multiplayer doesn't work with split Joycons, so I figured it was high time I bought a second controller. I also grabbed a couple of retro platformers (a personal favourite) and a carry case while I was at it - I figure the Switch has proven itself worthy of additional investment. ( )

Also, I see that Twilight Princess is in your Crazy 8 - a most excellent game indeed, with a game world only surpassed in immersion by Breath of the Wild!

Heh. Yeah sorry again about that confusion on SMT IV: Apocalypse.
I can see you started it by now. Hope it'll turn out at least as enjoyable as the other SMT games.

Actually it's three Shadowrun games and yes sadly they're only available on PC. They'd definitely be great for Vita, but at this point I'm not going to see that happen anymore.
I actually couldn't say which one I prefer. Shadowrun Returns is definitely different then the two that came after. Most people from what I've seen prefer the later ones, but I still really liked that one in its own way. It's definitely shorter than the other ones, so it won't hurt to try it out even if you'd end up liking it less than the others (or not liking it at all for that matter.)
On that note, you might wanna look into your PMs.

As I never played a Fire Emblem game I can't comment on your remark about that marriage system that you mentioned, since i don't even know what that entails.
Is it purely a story-telling thing or does it have some gameplay point? Was it just in the last one or is it part of the series? Just curious.

I see you finally managed to make your way through Disgaea 3 so congratulations on that.
Still a bit of a shame that you ended up skipping through the story since it does get better in my opinion, but hey I can still understand why you went with that approach.
Hope you'll fare better with part 4 when the time comes.

Right the Switch also released a while back. We've really reached the point of not just too many games but also too many systems. Haha. Thankfully I don't feel an urge to get that one so far, but you never know. There's always a chance that eventually there will be that one game release that tips the scales and suddenly you something else on your purchase list.

Well if it makes you feel any better you're not the only who 'wasted' their money on smaller memory sticks for the Vita before caving in and going for the 64 GB. It IS quite expensive after all and one can underestimate the hassle of juggling several games on the smaller memory. Hindsight as per usual is 20/20.

I also noticed that you started playing the God of War games I've played through the series myself a few years ago. I enjoyed them for what they were, even though Kratos isn't exactly the most likely person. Hope you're having fun as well.

And thanks for the comment on the theme. I also think it turned out well if I do say so myself.

Yeah my free time has just be consumed by Persona 5 right now. I'll probably... eventually... get back to Xenogears...

I've definitely gotten stuck on final bosses before. Even in games where everything up to it isn't too bad but the final boss just makes you grind a million levels.

Still unsold on the switch. Maybe once Fire Emblem Warriors comes out.

I'm not a huge fan of Mario Kart, I find it far more rage inducing than fun.

I eventually figured out a purple I liked. Of course now is about time for a theme change again. Maybe I'll add some new characters to the banner and leave the colours.

Well you'd have to ask him that. Probably just different criteria for completion. This site is fairly open ended in how you want to apply statuses to your own games which is something I am all for but it gives you discrepancies like that sometimes.
Bak'laag needs food...
