Medal Interpretation ▼
I don't follow Backloggery's suggested medal interpretation. Instead, here's how I've tweaked the rules for my personal tastes:
1) A "Completed" game doesn't necessarily mean I've unlocked absolutely everything within the game, instead I use it as a marker signifying that I personally have beaten said game to the point where I'm content. For example, I marked Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion as completed because I completed every mission possible with my character. I didn't beat EVERY single mission in the game thanks to plenty being tied to class/alignment/etc., such as the Dark Brotherhood missions needing evil characters for example. In this case I've reached the point where, in my book, I am done with the game. For clarity, I usually put what I've done in comments to clarify if I haven't fully completed the game.
2) I'll list a game as "Beaten" when I have beaten the main game, but plan to go back and complete extra things later. Such as getting all the Shine Sprites in Super Mario Sunshine or getting around to beating all the VR Missions in Metal Gear Solid 2. I usually describe in the comments what I plan to go back for.
3) A game will be listed "Null" not only when it's an unbeatable game with no ending, but additionally if I have dropped the game or have no interest in ever playing it in the first place. For the former, if I played a game, but ended up dropping it with no plans to return to it, what's the point of having it drag down my incompletion percentage? As for the latter, this can happen often when I receive digital games in bundles that I don't really care for and being that they're digital, I can't ever sell them. Also, not all the games that are in my collection are mine, but instead they're shared with my from my partner's collection. One could suggest that I delete these titles from my Backloggery, but I like to use this site as a log to keep track of my collection in one place rather than scattered across my house and storage.
4) Flat out, I'll admit that I'm loose on the "Master Run" titles. I sometimes extend a Master Run medal to cases where I've gone above and beyond to see a game through to completion, such as getting all the high scores or something. Basically, I just like to give this to titles where I feel like I have put a special commitment into them.
Disclaimer: I know some people may have an issue with my medal scores being cheated or something, but let's be honest, Backloggery was made for people to keep track of progress in their game collections. Everything else is just a bunch of neat little bonus features that you can optionally use to have extra fun with the site.
