★★★★★ Not only my favorite game in the entire Dragon Quest series, but my favorite RPG of all time. I found the NES version astonishing, especially for the time period it came out, but it's back in all its wonderful glory on the SNES. How unfortunate this remake never made it outside of Japan, but thanks to emulation and reproductions, this can be enjoyed by English speakers!

☆☆☆★★ It's playable at best, but this is one of the poorest Doom ports around.

Consider Yourself a Hero: Majority of games are beaten
The funny thing about République: I was a backer on Kickstarter
and have the iPad version since release that keeps crashing
every time right after the initial intro room on my old Ipad.

"And get her a blanket, I don't want her freezing to death."
Dude leaves room into hallway, game freezes for maximum irony.

Decided to get the PC version and (finally) catch up a little.
What little I've been able to play so far is pretty enjoyable.

I don't get it either. I don't have a problem with XSEED's stuff, myself. I'm glad they helped bring more attention to Ys and Trails in the Sky outside of Japan and they deserve credit for that, at the very least.

I'm going to try and snag it on the Vita if I can. I'm a little surprised XSEED couldn't localize it and that NISA is doing it instead. Here's hoping it'll be good.

Ys and Dragon Spirit turned thirty recently huh? That's pretty old. Surprisingly enough, for those two games, they're not one you look at and think how old you are, compared to Pokémon. Regardless, the NES Dragon Spirit was one of, if not the, first game I ever finished (it's so easy, a kindergartner can finish it if s/he plays it enough.) My first Ys game that I actually bought was the DS version of the first two games back in early 2010. While that was certainly good, the Turbo CD version is definitely best. Thank goodness it was ported to the Wii U VC. I prefer the Genesis version of Ys III over SNES, and since none of the others except the eighth one came out on any system I own, that's it. Looking forward to that new one coming out on the PS4 soon. Come to think of it, isn't there a new Xanadu game coming soon too? What a great time to be a PS4 owner, especially if you could care less about all the boring-looking graphical powerhouse, realistic-playing games that the Western market hypes and churns out every month. Sometimes they prove themselves, like Skyrim, but they seem pretty forgettable. [Cough] Sorry, I rambled for a moment there. Anyway, hurrah to Ys and Dragon Spirit!

Don't you admire the badass level names in Kid Chameleons? With names like "Ice God's Vengeance" and "Bloody Swamp", how could your game not be amazing?

Awesome! Didn’t know that Ys was 30 years old today! I’ve just finished playing through the first one on turbo grafx! Loved it! Would love to get a PC-88 and the original one day! Or the X68000 :D

30 years ago today, Ys was released for the NEC PC-88 in Japan. To celebrate the birth of not only one of my favorite RPGs but also one of my favorite series in general, I decided to appropriately decorate my page. The colors I had from the Valis II theme were perfect for the banner, so I just left everything other than the banner and icon as-is.

I will be streaming Ys later today, don't have a time set currently, but I'll post in my "Stream" entry as I always do to keep you all updated. Please feel free to stop by and celebrate with us!

As a side-note, for those of you scratching your heads over my icon and going "What does Amano have to do with Ys?", Amano did some artwork for the X68000 port. Check out that version, it's very interesting and kick-ass, as expected of an X68k port.

Oh man, that's awful! I didn't have that issue, so I dunno what to suggest for fixing it. I do know that you can sell key items.. maybe (and this is going to suck) get rid of the cross, talk to the old man, go get the cross back from the boss and try talking to him again?

I never actually had to redo any of the boss fights cause Save States, so I dunno how much work that'd truly be .. but I imagine events are actually tied to items dropped by bosses rather than whether or not the bosses themselves still live; I could be wrong.

Either way, you'll probably enjoy Heracles II a whole lot better. My only big deal with it was the tendency for enemies to break your gear, and I'm not certain any equipment is immune to it. It's so random whether an enemy will do it or not, and I'm fairly certain there's no way to repair them. But gameplay, story, musically, the game is definitely a lot more fun. Very much sticks to the "let's be Dragon Quest" idea, but does do a couple things differently, like the aforementioned durability stuff.

It's a nice shmup that I enjoyed and wouldn't mind playing again sometime. It's a pretty solid game with some strange enemy designs and some nice animation. And the music is charming and kind of fun to listen to. I should try the other Aniki games I haven't played yet and maybe give Zero another go sometime.

How's Kid Chameleon treating you?

It was a fun game, better than I thought it would be since it was the only NES game I hadn't played in the series.

Now it's time for #4! Dragon Quest is an awesome series.

Edit: I decided to bump the stream to tomorrow. I can start earlier and have more time to attempt finishing the game. Tonight I'll just keep working on FFII. Sorry everyone.

I'll be starting a bit late as I'm expecting some company and I don't want to leave the stream going yet again for god-knows how long while company's here. We're going to play more Heracles, so it'll happen when I'm ready. Thanks for understanding.

Since I've made a good deal of progress so far this year, I decided to slim things down a good deal and focus heavier on a smaller portion of titles I'm currently working on. Perhaps soon I can get out of 900+ .

Thanks. I ponder if they made it that way on purpose. No shadow underneath the character, no in-game map... it really was a challenging game.

I bet Solstice is just as hard, if not more so.
