FFXV has this issue where they tend to skip stuff. Example: start of chapter 8, we are going to ABC to meet a friend and fix a boat. My escort informs me that there's a "spot of trouble" at the power plant that I might want to look into. I don't know how she learned about it, because she was with me the whole time.

Teleport to the power plant, where Noct is already in a hazmat suit, and everyone is like, "You'll have to go in alone because that's the only suit. See you later." A mission objective pops up to kill all the daemons in the plant.

Oh, were there daemons in the plant? You see, nobody told me. Did the daemons cause a nuclear meltdown? Why do we need hazmat suits? Also, Noct is going in to deal with these daemons alone? Everyone's okay with that? When did this happen? Maybe there could've been a conversation. A woman is standing on the other side of the gate with my friends. Who is she? Should I recognize her? She hasn't said anything. HOW DID I GET HERE???

I think I'd enjoy Graces a lot more if certain characters didn't irritate me so much and the story didn't keep playing Hot Potato with the idiot ball. While I like it better than Abyss, I liked Graces better when it was just Asbel, Sophie, Richard and Pascal. At this point I'm not sure when I'm going to finish it.

The loss of potential in the game is staggering, the most noteworthy for me being Cheria. She had so much potential as a character in her own right: deconstructing the "Wait for My Man" cliche, an adorable big sister relationship with Sophie, giving her a purpose in life and even other love interests as if to set up the idea that she can move on from her childhood. But after the story gave us her INCREDIBLY POINTLESS kidnapping subplot, it was like her part just stopped. From then on it felt as if she was only around to show the audience that Asbel was neither gay (Richard) nor a lolicon (Sophie).

Oops, I ranted a bit there.

I'm sorry to hear about FFXIII-2. I haven't played the actual game yet, but I had a lot of fun with the demo. Guess I'll give it a rental.
