★★★★★ Probably the best game in an already amazing series. It basically collects many, many stages from the previous 3 games, and adds some new ones to the mix. There's also a fun story now, you can see EXACTLY how well you did on every stage or every beat. There are challenge stages, which are really hardcore in the later levels, and are definitely only for series veterans. There are even some very hidden WarioWare stages as well! Easily a 10/10 game.

☆★★★★ It plays kinda like Candy Crush, I guess. And it's free to play, also. But it has Pokémon elements, like Mega Evolutions, type effectivenesses, and special abilities. It can be pretty addicting, and they update it all the time, so it's a really big time sink.

★★★★★ The best Animal Crossing yet! Every player gets his or her own ENORMOUS house, with more furniture than ever! And now the first player is the mayor, and he/she can add projects to the town, like bridges, benches, or a police station. There are more fish, bugs, and music than ever! And now we can swim, and catch underwater creatures! There's the main street, which works much like the City from the Wii game, only better, the island returns, and there are minigames! Did I mention it's portable?

Interesting. I remember killing one of those Shy Guys with a Spin Jump, those should work too. Do you even unlock anything for getting max paint, though?

BTW, how long does it take to get to 600 MAX Paint? It was a pain to raise it any higher once I got to 350 or so.

Sorry for the late reply, I was pounded at work with a lot of travel and reports to write in the past couple of weeks. Wow, that is amazing! I’m seriously tempted to pick up a copy of new leaf now. I never played an Animal Crossing before, despite my current avatar. That’s nice of them to include Desert Island Escape on the 3DS version. That did look pretty fun, but not enough to pick up Amiibo Festival. I like amiibos and all, but centering a game around that was a bad idea.

Huh, weird. The first three Toads in particular never used anything other than paper for me.
I know, it's amazing RNG. It's not like the Koopa has higher chances of picking the same card as you, the other times I faced him I tied twice at worst (happened fairly often). If I recall correctly, after the 5th tie or so, the referee started picking a random quote from a group of about 3 possible quotes. I don't remember what he actually said anymore though, probably something on the lines of "will this match ever end?" or "challengers, pick your next card!". Maybe you should see for yourself by stalling against the Pokey, since after the first 50/50 chance you know what it will use everytime.

Actually, I thought the Wizards had slightly more chances to use paper. I defeated most of them by spamming scissors. That last temple wasn't that painful for me, it only took me a dozen tries, but I can see how RNG can make that almost impossible. I actually had my tiny bit of crazy RNG in Roshambo Temples, which was doing 11 ties in a row against a Koopa.

I found it pretty good too, and yeah, I agree the dialogue is amazing. The most prominent problem for me was the Roshambo Temples, they give Coins WAY too fast. Even faster than in Sticker Star, which is something (I remember getting about 2000 per hour). It kinda breaks the balance of the game and makes staking up on the best cards (which can beat bosses pretty fast) too easy. I really liked the references too - again, it's nice to see Nintendo still knows SMB2 is a thing. The ending was a rollercoaster of emotions for me! I cracked up as soon as I heard the MK8 music playing, and can't say I did 't see the Rainbow Road coming either. After smiling for a few minutes and thinking nothing could ever beat those references, the death stare came. I recall being really surprised and also laughing a lot at that.
I'm also thinking this game makes a bit of confusion in the Mario timeline, specifically with Paper Jam. Several dialogue near the end of Color Splash hints at the paper universe being the same as the normal universe. For example, "beat Bowser as you've been doing for 30 years!" - while Paper Mario came out in 2000, or "the Koopalings learned their lesson again" - while this game was their first appearence in paper form. It makes me think either Paper Jam is non-canon, or Color Splash's translators messed up the continuity of the series. But that's probably just me rambling

Well, OK, but that's basically SMB2 too
About Color Splash: the first chapter is longer than all the others. The others are more or less all as short. And after you get all the Paint Stars, you'll be greeted with a single level. This is one of the problems this game hasn't fixed since Sticker Star, the final world is extremely short. At least this time around the journey to get to it feels longer than in Sticker Star.

That's also true, but after so many years, I'd really like to see them in another game. Even counting Super Mario Advance, it's been about 15 years by now.

You'll be glad to hear that Birdo cameos in this game too. Just like in Sticker Star.
The fact that they're referenced doesn't give me much hope, though - even Mouser got referenced at a certain point in Bowser's Inside Story, at least 5 years ago, and he hasn't showed up in a game ever since.

So you came across the "What in the Lost Levels is going on?" joke. There are many other ones later on, and the best jokes are at the very end of the game IMO. The dialogue also referenced Wart at a certain point, I like how Nintendo still didn't forget him.

Yeah, I have the same prolem: I'd like to get into VC, but since tomorrow there are already two games coming out, a few other 3DS/WiiU ones I'm interested in buying and the big NX question mark, I fear I might end up spending too much money
So it looks like there are more foreign StreetPassers in Japan than Japanese ones... Intersting. Still hoping you finally get it.

Yeah, it's still fresh even in the Extra Worlds - I'm surprised there even was a new gimmick (those Donut Blocks of sorts). If you're not tired of those puzzles, you should definitely consider getting BOXBOXBOY (it's slightly shorter than this one) if you like Extra Worlds 4-5' gimmick too.

They come really in useful when you feel like you almost have the right solution and the costumes' power help you getting through, or when you're particularily lazy and don't want to think a lot (just like me ).

It's stated in the descriptions of 3 specific costumes: I'm not exactly sure when do they unlock, though. Wizard lets you create 1 more block than the limit (you can cheese through levels with this sometimes, especially in the sequel), Bunny lets you jump 2 blocks high (helpful to save on blocks) and Ninja lets you go faster (mostly useless, except for getting faster times and when you have one block tall passages to squeeze through: it saves blocks thanks to bad traction). All the other ones are useless.

Is there some sense of progression in the gardening one too?
You're about halfway through, it's longer than you might think. As for that crown, try using Play Coins if you haven't already. They show the intended soluction for a level which (if you aren't using costumes) is the one that uses the fewest blocks. If you end up using too many blocks, maybe there is a way to save a few of them.
