I've had good success so far in 2017 downsizing my collection to be more focused, and buying less / budgeting better!
I've come to the conclusion that guilt/mental strain is the enemy, not the backlog (but not wasting money is generally a good idea too, if you have goal related to saving money). "Games are what I play to mitigate anxiety not cause it"
7/1 - I'm still under a lot of stress from various sources. A backlog isn't the most prominent, but it is one I have a lot of control over. Every time I
a game or get a new one I'm also going to pick a few to mark
. This will basically result in my playing my top 10-20 games from here one and I'm totally fine with that until the 'backlog' is cleared that way. After that, I'll probably just pick 10 or so games at a time to go through as well. Considering my collection more like access to free games rather than ones I'm forcing myself to play. My play order will also be based on my personal ratings now.
7/10 That top 10 right now (not of all time :P) looks like
Hatsune Miku Project Diva Future
6. Drive Girls
7. Hyperdevotion Noire
8. Nurse Love Addiction
9. Omega Quintet
10. Pokemon Sun/Moon (might change this one if Stars turns out to be real)
No goals are strict rules, just fun ideas.
Games fall into a few categories that I find it really difficult to be honest with myself about:
Games I really love - I genuinely get feelings of joy playing this. I'm not just playing because I want to experience more within a subculture of fans or something foggy like that. For me these are a few JRPG's like the Neptunia games, Project DIVA games, and maybe a couple of racing games
Games I would definitely like to play, but don't absolutely love them - these are still something I should play, but after the favorites
Games I like something about, but can't fully commit to - This is the hardest one. I'm really a fan of some concept in the game like gameplay, art, music, etc, but it's not quite the full package. I should consider getting rid of a few of these
Games I probably shouldn't have - I doubt I completely hate this game. Maybe it's something I want to collect, but just don't want to play (there should be very few of these), but I should strongly consider not keeping it.
Games I absolutely shouldn't have - Typically this will just be digital games I can't get rid of
Games I don't stress about buying / collecting:
Hatsune Miku games
Fanservice games (Onechanbara, Senran Kagura, Dungeon Travelers)
Neptunia / Idea Factory
An extremely limited release (of a game I want to play)
Other Milestones I'd like to revisit
DOA 5 - beat with every character once.
DOA 5:LR - Attempt to unlock all costumes
DOAX3: 20 costumes trophies for all characters
DOA: Dimensions - Unlock all costumes? Been a while since I played this
Hearthstone - Actually play it. Level up Valeera?
Senran Kagura Bon Appetit - get a few more grindy trophies
Sonic Racing Transformed - replay on vita
Pokemon Blue (VC) - get entire party to 100 for
Magical Drop V - play through all characters?
Fortune Street - play through single player
Smash for Wii U - Level up various amiibo to 50 (each amiibo is an [x])
Basically none right now. :P Maybe they'll return someday. I use
liberally. I have a lot of games I'm happy to collect, but don't want to play. Even some game I'd like to play, but not enough for it to be a priority. In early 2017 I marked a lot 3-star (which is usually my 'maybe' rating)
. I'm prioritizing things I really want to play and making that my backlog (It's still hundreds of games and huge, but beating it is my goal)
