I'd love to read your thoughts on the matter! In addition to what you said, I feel some of it, at least for me, is that I'm never very invested in the stories in the mainline games, and that's become an increasingly bigger facet in them. In the first two generations, I was playing as a kid who wanted to be the very best, like no one ever was. That resonates with me more than whatever world or universe or multiverse conquering plot the newest evil team is enacting. I still enjoy the mainline series, but Black 2 and White 2 was the last time it really clicked for me personally. ...Though I did spend over 200 hours in Y playing with my college buddies at the time.

Good luck with the semester! And I sadly lack those skills, but don't worry! I'll figure something out. Super Mario Memorial: Doki Doki Mustache Love! is the innovation the industry... no, the world needs.

I assume the video you saw was CrowbCat's Dead Rising 1 vs. Dead Rising 4 comparison? Yeah, it's a great video, thoroughly visualizing the gap in detail between the two games. The timer in the first two Dead Risings is off-putting to some, but I strongly recommend at least trying the original. It is indeed a quirky time.

Do you want to be the very best, like no one ever was? Then you gotta get Ultra Moon! ...Though I'm glad you're enjoying yourself. To be honest, Silver's gripped me more than Ultra Sun thus far.

Glad you're comfortable at school! How's the semester so far? I also hope you've been making the time to work on our Mario dating sim on the side. We still need to send Nintendo a beta.

The original Dead Rising is an all-time favorite of mine, and I really like Dead Rising 2 (and Case Zero), too. Their timers make them uninviting for some, but they're wimps, I say. Wimps! As for Dead Rising 4, well... I don't like it.

Well, you just beat Pokémon Red! That's a start for 2018! And it seems like you're on track to make some progress.

Glad schooling's going well! I forget, you're dorming there, right?

Personally, things have been going well, I guess! I've mainly played Dead Rising lately, partially because it's an all-time favorite of mine and also because I'm working on an article about Frank West.

Whenever I feel bad about my own backlog, I always take a glance at your 1,000+ game list of terror.

How've you been, buddy? How's school?

That's too bad about your Vita. How much would it cost to get it fixed? It might be cheaper, and less of a hassle, to just purchase a new Vita.

I haven't made much use of the front touch screen while playing games yet. I don't really have any titles that force you to use it. So far, the back touch screen has been more important to playing, but a faulty front would make the entire system impossible to use I'd imagine...

Birthright is okay, not spectacular. My memory of Awakening isn't the greatest, but I am pretty certain that I enjoyed it much more as a whole. Not that I'm a Fire Emblem guru or anything... Birthright is only the second title I've played.

The battles are a lot of fun and the only thing that I've really gotten into. For me, the story is a bit bland... Maybe it's the fault of the characters? I'm near the end of the game and I haven't even chosen my "husband" yet. A lot of the classes seem much too similar too, especially for this far into the game.

I'm certain that it's not the difficulty I've chosen, either, or the "branch" that I chose. Birthright was chosen for the ability to grind in extra battles. I went with Hard-Casual, since I wanted to avoid quick-restarting, over and over, for a flawless victory. Which was a good choice, since I lose troops a LOT. I have a tendency to willingly, accidentally sacrifice someone as bait...

Listen to me, speaking like a reviewer or something...

You should share your thoughts on Severed, once you get around to giving it a whirl. It has been tempting me for a long time, more so now that I noticed it is on sale via PSN!

I didn't even know that it was available for the 3DS too! I should check to see which is cheaper...

I'm sure I forgot to add something, but my collection should be pretty up to date. But yeah, it was tedious to add everything.

It was actually only my second or third convention. I'm glad I went, though. Especially because I got to impart my wisdom to the next generation! I hope you get to go to a fun convention someday.

Yeah, it's not unlike Valve. It's great to see SEGA recognize their fans' talents. They also acknowledged Big's Big Fishing Adventure 3, so Sonic's been getting a lot of love from me lately! (I'm so, so excited for Mania. I don't get excited for games often these days, so hopefully it lives up to or exceeds my expectations.)

And those budget cuts are disheartening, but I think your workaround will more than salvage Mario Teaches Dating. Wario is synonymous with sex appeal - more so than any other Nintendo character, at least. I mean, just look at this! [Link]

That sounds great! I was never an RA but I was a desk receptionist at one of the dorms, so I had at least a little familiarity with that world. Have you had to deal with any crazy incidents yet?

I love working for the journal!....most of the time. We're having some difficulties with the current guest-edited special issue at the moment, so that hasn't exactly been my favorite. But overall, I really enjoy working directly with the scholars whose work we publish and helping them to improve their writing. In that sense it's sort of a different form of my favorite thing about teaching, which is helping students to develop their ideas and their prose. So I don't miss teaching just yet, although we'll see if I do end up missing the classroom experience as time goes on. For now, though, I'm really loving not having to grade hundreds of papers per semester.

Yeah, nothing wrong with selling stuff you don't have a use for anymore. Over the last year I've been selling off my collection of hardcover graphic novels, and it's brought in a surprising amount of money and cleared up a lot of shelf space. I've gotten rid of a few video games along the way, too, and it's surprising how much some people will pay for this stuff. (Fifty bucks for my sealed copy of the Teen Titans GameCube games? Sure, buddy, it's all yours...) And it's funny you mention Pokemon, because Diamond/Pearl actually launched at the end of my second year of college as well...I remember blowing half my finals week playing Diamond. Those were the days, haha. Do you have your eyes on Sun or Moon?

As for books, let's see...probably my favorite thing I've read in the last few months is Lawrence Wright's 'Going Clear: Scientology and the Prison of Belief.' It's honestly probably the best nonfiction book I've ever read...truly fascinating content, and just incredibly written. I've actually mostly been reading nonfiction lately, to be honest. Anthony Bourdain's 'Kitchen Confidential' was really fantastic as well; I had no idea he was such an outstanding writer. Anything good cross your bookshelf lately?

Hey, good to hear from you! How have you been? Is school still going well? I'm not teaching anymore since I'm working full-time at the journal now. I enjoy telling people who ask how my teaching's going that I'm "retired."

It looks like neither of us have done too much gaming lately...I've poked around with a few short games over the last six months, but nothing major other than Pokemon Shuffle (which I do still play every day). I play Spider-Man Unlimited on my phone sometimes too, if I need something to do while I'm listening to a podcast or audiobook. I also just bought Overwatch after giving it a try when they briefly made the whole game free last weekend, and it seems like a fun, low-stakes game that I can play regularly without investing too much time at once. I'm also considering starting Dragon Quest IV on DS either today or tomorrow, but I'm not sure how much time I actually have to devote to it at the moment. At this point I'm the busiest at school and work that I've ever been!
Don't know why you're wasting time, just know what I do with mine
