★★★★★ The ultimate edition of a game that originated on the PSP, Half Minute Hero is basically a series of epic RPGS, broken down into 30 second segments. The idea is that you gather your equipment and level up in that short period of time, on occasion extending it with money. It's colorful and humorous, with additional campaigns offering extra gameplay and two sets of graphics. This half minute will take up hours of your time.

☆★★★★ Reimagining the original Wolfenstein, The New Order gives us technologically advanced Nazis who won the war and now control the world, and puts you in the shoes of BJ Blaskowicz in an effort to topple the regime through gunplay and stealth. The gameplay is solid, the story is well written and evokes emotion, and its simply a fantastic piece of work. If you haven't experienced it yet you definitely need to do so.

☆★★★★ An intriguing third person action/adventure title, with a mixture of combat and puzzles and that focuses highly on psychosis and mental illness. It's an ugly yet intriguing story, with excellent combat and perhaps a few too many puzzles. Still overall it's a great game to experience at least once.

☆★★★★ A pixel graphic survival game, The Final Station places you in a post apocalyptic world where you're the conductor of one of the only running trains. As such you're tasked with hauling important cargo by the miltary and rescuing survivors. In between side scrolling action sections where you fight enemies and gather supplies, you try to keep survivors in good health so they survive to the next destination. It's quite engaging and enjoyable to play.

Hey, happy new year!

I didn't totally hate Odallus. It was good enough to beat. I think Castlevania 1 is one of the best games for that classic retro feeling, so Odallus had impossibly high standards to live up to. I have another game by the same devs called Oniken, which I think is supposed to be their take on Contra-styled action. I'll have to see if I get the same problems from that one too.

That sounds amazing! You can download other people's creations ala WWE 2K? I don't suppose you know if they will ever take the servers down like 2K always does? I don't want to miss my chance to grab all of those guys, but I can't even imagine when I'll get around to it, sadly.

Yep. I was talking about it before. I am aware mechanics have changed heavily between games, with gimmicks and all. But with that other information between you guys, I have a better understanding of what I'm up against. The more you know...

I mean, I can be quite a stubborn guy at times, always hanging on the things I catch onto. Coming from playing too much N64 Smash and just getting into Melee. The very least I acknowledged was the fact that I'll want to main differently.

I actually bought the new one! It will be my first of the series. I'm really hoping that there is a lot of fulfilling gameplay in the series. I've only ever heard it being heralded for it's customization options, and to be honest, I'm pretty crap when it comes to stuff like that. I've heard of it throughout the years, but I've never been able to understand why the graphics have never been souped up? I don't know much about it, but once they put those NJPW guys in the game and gave them the cover-treatment - well, I'm pretty much a huge mark for that.

As always with me, it will be forever and ever before I ever play it unfortunately. I can't get off my freaking WWE 2K14, and only because it has the nWo guys that I grew up on.

I beat Odallus, but I can't say I like it very much. Certainly doesn't compare to the Castlevania games I've played.

While playing Odallus, I got this weird feeling--what I'd call a "retro game uncanny valley"--where it seemed like I was playing a retro Castlevania game, though too much was off-putting for it to maintain a natural feeling. The level design was often wide-open and empty, which is so different from the dense and compact level design in early castlevania games.

The script was written so strangely, and I wasn't sure if it was done on purpose to poke fun at English translations of the early game industry or if the Odallus devs just had bad localization skills for English. That's another risk with retro-inspired modern throwback games: sometimes you can't tell if bad or archaic design is done unintentionally or done on purpose "ironically" to reference tropes. There's a lot of good tropes and references in this game, but the script was so bizarre I still can't tell if it's intentional or not.

I also got stuck in an idiotic way, so that costed me an hour too. I didn't mind the overall difficulty except when it felt like more bugs and quirks came around in the final bossfight than anywhere else in the game.

Finally wound up with two Kickstarter backer keys; probably the only two new games I'm going to end up with this year. Think I'm gonna put Quake and Bionic Commando: Rearmed on hold for now while I give these a go. Woot.

Hey folks. I've decided to finally do one of those 'Recommendation Station' things. I've already gotten some idea but if you're not busy, take a look through my list and toss me some ideas. Anything on Steam or Xbox is what I'd be looking for. Thank you.

Haha, congrats.

And yes, I am aware that the other skill levels are higher in speed, as per the video at the end. I felt like the hardest fast bits I've done were when there were brawlers. May have to use both my index fingers if it's gotten worse.

Oh, One Finger Death Punch! Did I mention I have beaten that game about a month ago? Welp, on student mode that is. Very thrilling but very difficult game. Seriously, if that later section of Student Mode is that difficult, I can't fathom how the other two skill levels would look like. Even on it's upcoming sequel...

Unless of course, it's just me - Lacking them bonus powerups whatever-you-call-them

So, admittedly after my discovery of RetroAcheivements I have become rather obsessed with that in the last month, and have made absolutely zero progress on my Backlog. Any spare time I have had I was playing emulated SNES games for achievements and not playing Steam or Xbox or anything else. Well now I think I need to re-focus a bit and get back to the battle against

So to lighten up my totals a bit, I have gone and removed all of the Wii virtual console titles from my backlog. Since I lost my original Wii and got a new one, I don't actually have them anymore. I had kept the listing of them solely because I had planned on re-purchasing them at some point. I now no longer have any reason to do so.

I also removed a couple of my WiiWare titles, for the same reason. The ones I removed I can obtain on other platforms. I do plan on re-purchasing a couple of them at some point before the Wii Shop closes down next year.

The reason I have no need for the VC titles anymore is I have become a member of the RetroAchievements site. You play ROMs of old games via emulators and get achievements in them like you do in modern games. There is support for plenty of older titles and its quite fun. I encourage anyone interested to go to their site and look me up under the same username. Cheers!

That's probably the best strategy to whittle down our backlog that's for sure. I was very tempted to buy something else off the eShop this week but Horizon instead.

Oh, I see I personally quit using guides in RPGs during playthroughs. I remember playing FF7 & 8 with guides and spoiling some of the fun, although definitely enjoying the games, but still. I use the guides, yes, but only when it's time before the final boss when you can collect all that's missing and find those ultima weapons and whatnot. Or if I'm stuck. But I don't think you can get stuck in this version, 'cause you can always use a hint on your next objective.

Of course I see some mysteries and side quests in the world that I don't know how to solve (yet), and I visit those places from time to time (Spoiler: some old fart speaking about a beast in Narshe mines; a couple of houses in the wild one of which def. has smth to do with Gaus; that clock puzzle in Zozo, also a clock puzzle in some other town; that wounded soldier and his letters, etc. ), but I hope that I'll be able to get that stuff before the end. Because, anyway, you'll definitely need some grinding to defeat those ultra-powerfull secret bosses (that's how all the games in the series work...). And if I miss anything, well, at least I'd have authentic experience And those bestiary entries -- I couldn't care less

Anyway, good luck with your run!

Ah, just saw you're playing FF VI too. And probably the same version, 'cause the Android and iOS versions are based on the PC remake. I'm currenly a bit further into the game than you, but considering my busy working schedule lately, I guess you'll outrun my progress soon.

Nice! To be honest, I got sucked into playing Final Fantasy X and then Shadow of the Colossus when that released. I'm giving purchased games the priority so I can lower my below 60 and hopefully 50 at some point.

Always the price I have to pay in a game with a lot of side quests.
