★★★★★ A remake of the first Yakuza title, bringing the graphics and the gameplay up to date and adding in some things to bring it in line with Yakuza 0. It's fun, frantic, bizzare, and just downright enjoyable. It's an easy recommendation to just about anyone.

☆★★★★ Basically if you took the plotline from Final Fantasy 10, substituted in hordes of demons instead of Sin, and set it in a world where it's constantly snowing and made the battle system a copy of Chrono Trigger, you'd have this game. It's still pretty good regardless, with battles being enjoyable once you get the system and the entire soundtrack being in piano. Anyone who is a JRPG fan should give this a go.

☆★★★★ In comparison to the other games in the series, NMH3 definitely does stand out. The combat is somewhat improved from the previous games, with a few steps forward but also a few back. Graphics look much better. The story is, unique. Which is saying a lot for a series about an otaku who murders people to get laid (more or less). If you're a fan of the series, or action games in general, it's worth the pickup.

The day glow cruelty of it was interesting at first, but having recently played Ultima 4 - which offers a lot more richness in narrative and a far more coherent world, even if the combat is pretty wretched - it definitely felt like a less compelling game. I did appreciate the subtle touches, and the narrative went to appreciably bonkers places eventually, but much more so than Ultima 4, it felt more like a history piece than a fun game in the present. Enjoyed your thoughts!

As with any 'main' series of Square's, there's always some experimentation. BBS was basically the 'main' experimental game for the KH series. 358/2 days didn't really do much but use the grid system, which was not bad. You love it or you hate it, I was personally a fan of the system BBS put in place and found it pretty fun to unlock the different commands and see what my character could develop. That said, it does have its downfall in other games such as the Balloon series in 3D, it's way too OP .

I'm surprised you haven't beaten 1 yet. It's really good. Not as good as 2, but a good 'stripped down' version. It was made back when the premise of the game was simple. Let me know if you want any tips on the other games!

I have managed to finally rip myself away from WWE 2K14, because I'm really trying to make progress on stuff this year. Plus, the actual game play is so stale and boring that I don't enjoy it anymore. I can't even get into the irl wrestling now because I just want to play a game where I can make it like I want it to. So, I should probably get on that.

Unfortunately, I have this thing where I want the first game that I play on a console to be a game that I've been dying to try. I don't think Fire Pro fits that description, and I will not be "blow away" with the Playstation 4 with that particular game. So, once I can get around to playing my first PS4 game, then I can jump into that. As always, who knows when that will be.

Hey, happy new year!

I didn't totally hate Odallus. It was good enough to beat. I think Castlevania 1 is one of the best games for that classic retro feeling, so Odallus had impossibly high standards to live up to. I have another game by the same devs called Oniken, which I think is supposed to be their take on Contra-styled action. I'll have to see if I get the same problems from that one too.

Yep. I was talking about it before. I am aware mechanics have changed heavily between games, with gimmicks and all. But with that other information between you guys, I have a better understanding of what I'm up against. The more you know...

I mean, I can be quite a stubborn guy at times, always hanging on the things I catch onto. Coming from playing too much N64 Smash and just getting into Melee. The very least I acknowledged was the fact that I'll want to main differently.

I actually bought the new one! It will be my first of the series. I'm really hoping that there is a lot of fulfilling gameplay in the series. I've only ever heard it being heralded for it's customization options, and to be honest, I'm pretty crap when it comes to stuff like that. I've heard of it throughout the years, but I've never been able to understand why the graphics have never been souped up? I don't know much about it, but once they put those NJPW guys in the game and gave them the cover-treatment - well, I'm pretty much a huge mark for that.

As always with me, it will be forever and ever before I ever play it unfortunately. I can't get off my freaking WWE 2K14, and only because it has the nWo guys that I grew up on.

I beat Odallus, but I can't say I like it very much. Certainly doesn't compare to the Castlevania games I've played.

While playing Odallus, I got this weird feeling--what I'd call a "retro game uncanny valley"--where it seemed like I was playing a retro Castlevania game, though too much was off-putting for it to maintain a natural feeling. The level design was often wide-open and empty, which is so different from the dense and compact level design in early castlevania games.

The script was written so strangely, and I wasn't sure if it was done on purpose to poke fun at English translations of the early game industry or if the Odallus devs just had bad localization skills for English. That's another risk with retro-inspired modern throwback games: sometimes you can't tell if bad or archaic design is done unintentionally or done on purpose "ironically" to reference tropes. There's a lot of good tropes and references in this game, but the script was so bizarre I still can't tell if it's intentional or not.

I also got stuck in an idiotic way, so that costed me an hour too. I didn't mind the overall difficulty except when it felt like more bugs and quirks came around in the final bossfight than anywhere else in the game.
