Greetings! I'm a 35 year old anime otaku and a gamer obviously. Tho occasionally I'm more into anime then games.
I've loved videogames since I was little and bought them frantically as a teenager. I started getting into anime in the late 90s and by the mid 00s or so I had become more of an otaku then a gamer but I still enjoy playing games. I like anime-themed games and older niche titles. I love trying out different classic stuff like on Sega CD and Sega Saturn and I also have a PC-Engine Duo I imported so I'm a bit into Imports as well.
My favorite Systems are Super NES, Playstation 2 and Sega Saturn.
Some of my favorite games are.....
The Phantasy Star series
(The classic series as well as the 3D titles, PSO, PSU, etc.)
The Ys series, and basically all Falcom games
The Fire Emblem Series
The "Tales of" Series
Star Fox 64
Most of Nippon Icchi and Gust's stuff also sparks my interest,
My favorites being...
Disgaea and La Pucelle Tactics
also used to love, but not so much new titles,
The Megaman Series
The Bomberman games especially for N64
...and of course...
Classic Sonic and Mario games,
the newer ones not so much...
My favorite genres are...
J-RPGs and Puzzles (Tetris, Puyopop, etc)
That scratches the surface of my tastes...
In recent years I've been spending a very large majority of my gaming time on my computer, but I do still have all my console stuff and work on a few games here and there.
I mostly prefer easy games as I quickly get frustrated and kinda suck at games (Except maybe puzzle games which I'm good at a few). I tend to enjoy RPGs where I can grind til it's easier to progress, or even a game you can play with friends to help you (co-op). I may never beat many of the games in my list... My policy on this matter is if it starts to feel like a chore and my enjoyment wains I probly wont make it to the end. I don't enjoy analyzing things in great depth. If it's not fairly easy to figure out or progress can't be made by normal means with reasonable effort I'll quickly get fed up and quit some games. I may seem shallow with this view, but if you're skilled at something you're more likely to enjoy it. To be fair, I do enjoy some things I can't beat. I like shmups for instance like Truxton and Sol-Feace but once I die a few times I'm usually done. I moreso like their music and design.
I've marked a lot of my collection as "null" I got them from a haul or I don't like em much and don't intend to finish. I'd be just as well not owning some stuff, but I still want to keep track of it. Null can be used kinda like "dropped" by anime logic for me.
Note on Scores: I play games on the lowest difficulty with the highest amount of lives that isn't infinite for scoring myself. If I don't for some reason I'll try to note it.
How I rate games:
***** - Among my absolute favorites games. Very replayable. Used sparingly
**** - Great! Maybe a few minor issues but I thoroughly enjoyed them.
*** - Solid titles. May have started getting bored of them by the end or they had potential for more and disappointed in some way (too short, gameplay issues, etc.) they were mostly decent though.
** - Meh... Some mediocre stuff that might have a few redeeming qualities might make it here, but the majority of these were mostly not worthwhile for me.
* - Awful and/or I felt like I totally wasted my time on it.
My other passion is Anime so my game progress can be terribly slow at times. Recently my anime watching has been quite light. I usually follow multiple shows on my computer each anime season.
I've completed around 1000 anime titles, I also own at least 1000 dvds/blurays! lol
These are my site profiles for anyone interested...
Anime-planet (may not be up to date)
I also do Myanimelist as it seems most popular. I like anidb the best.
