Haha, I suppose going back to classic FE without a Divine Pulse-equivalent is going to feel different no matter your skill level. I'd certainly go into them with a different mindset myself. I found Divine Pulse most helpful during grinding and generally helping me go through the four playthroughs faster as its safety net let me autopilot more instead of double checking every single move. Given the generally low overall difficulty it's not like I missed out on any quality tactics I had to employ to win...except in the DLC on Hard/Classic. That shit was kinda rough, even for me.

Arise has certainly been worth it and then some! My new favorite entry, so it gets one of the highest recommendations I can give. I'd say finish Zestiria first as well, though. Trying out the new shiny Tales of before it's done probably won't end well for it.

Thanks, wish I could let this theme stay up longer but I fear there's another game coming up that deserves one too!

Yeah, the roster of Fire Emblem Warriors is truly a shame and it most definitely deserves a sequel at some point. You'd think they'd at least have all the reps that are already in Smash but it is true that the games with the biggest focus sold significantly more than all the older ones. That said I still had an absolute blast with the game so that's an easy recommendation from me.

Divine Pulse definitely has a place in the game and it's not even solely responsible for the relative lack of difficulty found in Three Houses beyond Maddening mode. Battalions with their stat boosts and Gambits, generous resources including things like weapon repairing, Goddess Statue Upgrades, fairly easy and free access to Physic and New Game+/DLC perks all contribute. Even without Divine Pulse I'd consider the game on Hard/Classic in the lower half as far as difficulty goes and with it it just barely becomes the least difficult Hard Mode in the series in my eyes. There were only a handful of "Hold up." moments for me. I'd say it's close to a Normal Mode of older games and they sadly jump straight to Lunatic/Maddening with nothing inbetween for a good but not BS challenge. They hit that sweet spot with the DLC Cindered Shadows on Hard/Classic, so it's sad they didn't a difficulty of roughly the same level for the main game.

Some people consider banning things such as Divine Pulse, Battalions or even more but for normally playing the game as I have I simply don't find the idea appealing. It's actively fighting how the game was designed and intended to be played as well as not using new mechanics that make it unique. Heck, you can't even disable the Goddess Statue upgrades so you'd need to start a new file for that and lose your NG+ streak/perks.

Divine Pulse is a powerful tool of course, but as long as you don't intentionally play reckless and risky because it's there I don't consider it a big deal. It does take away some tension but it's a worthy trade-off for not having to redo chapters. I think that's one thing nobody likes doing. It's even more infuriating when you got good level-ups before the reset which don't show up again after!

I most certainly can't wait for all those FE remakes - ideally 4+5, 6+7 and 9+10 tied together - but that's a lot to develop while still releasing new entries as well. We'll be waiting well over a decade for those I imagine. I also feel like Marth's two games (1+3) deserve a proper remake at some point in time. After seeing what they did for Gaiden with Shadows of Valentia, his remakes feel very...underwhelming in comparison. They almost contributed to the death of the franchise if Awakening didn't save it all like it did. Finally, the remake of his second game never even got localized so they gotta do something about that at some point. I'd love a fully voice-acted retelling of Marth's story, in the same way Shadows of Valentia salvaged the plot of Gaiden so well. A man can dream, I suppose!

I did enjoy Silver Snow a lot and can confirm the similarities you mentioned, but it doesn't end the same way and still has some unique scenes and details that were cool to see. I also used the opportunity to use all the non-student units in one go and it was pretty damn great! That said, you'll most certainly get more new stuff out of doing Azure Moon or Crimson Flower after Verdant Wind.

Info on Rhea support and the split:
Getting the Rhea S-support is exactly what I did, but you can easily screw it up without prior knowledge. You have to reach a certain support rank before major events or the chance is gone. That's B before Ch10 and A before Ch12. Before the split the S was highlighted for me, indicating that enough points are there. It's pretty rough to raise that much in Part 1, but you can rebuy past supports in New Game+ with Renown and build upon them. So if you got maybe a C this time you can buy that and immediately build towards a B or even already an A next time.

Keeping a save file before the Black Eagles split is a good idea since Part 1 can drag quite a bit. I only didn't do it because I'm using completely different teams and that just wouldn't go well with it. You'll lose access to the few obvious units in either route so definitely prepare some replacements.

Finally, the requirements for Crimson Flower are a C+ with Edelgard and viewing a special event in Ch11 before the split (Talk to her in Explore that month). With that you can still choose either way, while missing the requirements forces you into Silver Snow.

PS: Your play time is perfectly normal. My Part 1's alone took 52->41->31 hours so far!

Honestly, I'd take low-effort HD ports without many improvements over pretty much nothing for Tales of. Especially when they don't really do proper remakes like for example Fire Emblem does. Fire Emblem's biggest gap in localised versions would be FE4+FE5 but they are prime targets for a remake so I can at least understand if they don't want to release translated official SNES versions in the meantime. That way they can sell the remakes as practically new games over here.

Switch is my main gaming platform right now, so if I can play something on there without significant drawbacks then I'll go for it. Not having to deal with BS trophies or achievements is also a godsend and a significant factor for me. I did wait until reviews were out to buy NEO TWEWY and from what I gathered the framerate struggles are more during the exploration than combat. Even then, it doesn't automatically ruin a game for me. I loved Age of Calamity which some people claim is unplayable due to its severe framerate problems, for example. All depends on the game, though.

Yeahhh, Tales of is definitely lacking with making its older titles available. It's hard to get anywhere without emulation and even fan translations here. Tales of Hearts R being stuck on the Vita sucks (as it's a really good Tales of game!) but it gets even worse when you consider Tales of Innocence R was never localised at all.

It's a shame the series isn't more popular to make Bandai-Namco look into making their old entries available. Square-Enix doesn't always do it properly but they're at least doing something with Final Fantasy and Dragon Quest to a lesser degree. Hopefully Tales of Arise can rejuvenate the series after such a long gap. Hard to believe it's been nearly 5 years since Berseria was released. I hope they made good use of that time!

That said, I'm not even sure if I'll play Arise at launch. I don't own either next-gen console and don't want to play a presumably inferior PS4 version. I have a beefy gaming PC but I'll definitely wait for reviews since you never know with PC versions, especially from Japanese publishers. Even then, I have so many games on my plate that I'll have to find time for Arise first.

I don't think Zestiria is necessarily difficult with its combat, as it's just unusual really. Don't expect any satisfying character growth in terms of stats, skills and equipment though. I actually don't remember precisely how it all worked, just the relief I felt when I saw that Berseria fixed all of that. I...think I reluctantly bought and played the Alisha DLC. Not sure if it's worth the money though. Probably not.

Although we've only talked about the bad, I want to point out that there's quite a few things I enjoyed from Zestiria as well. The OST is excellent, particularly the pieces that were composed by someone that's not Sakuraba IIRC. "Journey's End", "Rising Up" and Zaveid's Theme are some of my favorites. I also found all the similarities to Zelda quite amusing. I also remember finding the combat gimmicks really cool, just a shame they botched a big chunk of the RPG aspect with the systems. In general, the execution just couldn't match their ideas. Speaking of which, there's also a very epic story chapter/fight in it that most definitely stood out to me compared to the rest of the franchise. I hope that you'll also find enough to enjoy in the game!

I actually haven't played Vesperia's DE yet, with its exclusive content over the 360 version. I was going to save that for an eventual Tales of marathon through every mainline title, including the older ones I've yet to try. Maybe I'll find time for all that next year if I'm lucky! It'll be a while before I'll play Zestiria a second time to solidify my opinion on it, so I'd welcome hearing your thoughts as you play more of it!

True, it's actually pretty difficult for potential new Metroid fans to play the older games. Zero Mission, Super Metroid and Fusion should definitely be on the Switch. I don't think any of this stuff is going to happen until a proper successor, but hopefully they can get it together by then. Having those classic games on a hybrid is just incredibly handy.

Tales of Zestiria, eh? That game certainly received its fair share of hate. Some justified, some not. In my eyes, anyway. I wouldn't mind hearing what you think of the game once you're deeper into it. It's been a while since I played it but the biggest issue I can remember is the equipment/skill system. A grindy, convoluted mess, to be exact. There was also controversy about the DLC practices, as they had a paid DLC side story for a pretty major character who didn't have enough screen time in the actual game. It made it feel deliberately cut out, whether it truly was or not.

Bandai-Namco learned their lesson and didn't pull any funny things like that again with Berseria. Fortunately Berseria was also a much more refined game in general, though it still felt stuck in the past with its world design among other things. Hoping Tales of Arise will finally be the jump the series deserves! I've watched very, very little of it so far and want to keep it that way but the little I've seen certainly gave me hope!

I don't think it could even be called pessimistic to assume Metroid Prime 4 won't happen until a Switch successor at this point. Speaking of which, I hope they don't do anything too crazy and just give us a proper Super Switch. Take everything from the original Switch but more powerful and improved. The hybrid design is so useful for Nintendo that they can't go back to having a home console + handheld with split game libraries again. I'd also love if the successor natively played all original Switch games but with potential improvements!

The DLC side story is completely separate from the main game. You can play through it all before even starting a main game save as it's its own save file. It's essentially a short campaign with a handful of chapters where you have "pre-made" units consisting of some main game ones plus the DLC characters. Once you beat this side story, you can find and recruit the DLC characters in any of your main game files even if they're already underway. They function just like other students would with supports and dialogues based on the game progress but aren't directly involved in the main story as the side story heavily features them.

Hope that clears things up!

SSHD indeed seems to be the only thing they're doing, at least for now. Who knows how much longer BotW2 will take but I want it to be the best as it can be so I don't mind waiting. Back when BotW came out I jokingly said "Hopefully we'll get another 3D Zelda before I'm 30 years old!" and well...the deadline for that would be April 2023. I hope they make it! I was thinking of perhaps replaying the 2D Metroid games before Dread and while they're not terribly long I've got an overwhelming amount of games I want coming out during Summer.

The DLC side story doesn't really have any spoilers but its plot does tie into aspects of the main game so some prior knowledge is good to have. Since you've played the first part the game before it should be fine. Definitely a good idea to get it out of the way since you also unlock another useful facility for the main game by beating it.
