Master of Unlocking: Majority of games are completed
Yeah I wanted to try the PSX game, but never found it.

The town and people were more interactable in the PSX one right? I log a lot more hours on handhelds than consoles so I think overall I would've enjoyed the GBC one more, I'm sure being 2D that gameplay would've kept the game moving at a much swifter pace too?

So far it's not great. The town with a monster tower theme is retained, otherwise the story is different.

It's 3D and slower paced, and doesn't seem to have much depth. I don't think that there's monster fusion, you can't throw items, and it doesn't seem like you can control your monsters behavior.
The dungeons aren't randomized, and your character retains his level upon leaving the tower.
For some reason health doesn't regenerate at all, but you learn magic so you can heal yourself.

I had Azure Dreams on my GBC and loved it, definitely one of my favourite games, I've never forgotten that awesome upbeat title screen music! Despite being an initially confusing and new experience it hooked me pretty quickly.

Tao has yet to capture that magic, and I doubt that it will. It's enjoyable enough, but I doubt it'll attain hidden gem status as I continue to progress. As an early DS game they went with forced stylus usage which slows down the pace of the game for a minor annoyance.

Were you too skip on it you wouldn't be missing much, when I play it I end up wishing I was playing Azure Dreams again instead, if only the internal battery were still alive

Tyrian was one of my favorites back in the shareware era. The levels added by the "2000" remake were pretty stupid, though. (Invincible snot monster? In the main storyline? What?)

Confused: Playing 10+ games at once
Late response: yes indeed. FF4 was the game that really turned me into a 'gamer.'

I wouldn't say I'm disappointed with it. The ending was lame (really, it had no "ending" to speak of at all--DII had at least a few cool CG sequences), but that only detracts a little from an overall great design.

I suspect my character--a melee-heavy Alchemist--just wasn't designed well for the final battle. If I had a stronger AoE attack than Ember Shock, I'd have been able to deal with his ridiculous numbers of summoned creatures. As it was, I had to run around like a headless chicken until he unsummoned his crew, then walk in and whomp on him a while until he decided to summon again. Rinse and repeat for who knows how long--the bastard had so many hit points, the battle kept going long beyond the point of fun. Oddly enough, the final boss was the only one who gave me such trouble. Most of the storyline battles were amusing, maybe required one or two interesting tactical decisions, but never managed to come close to killing me. Unlike some of the random named enemies in the rest of the dungeon!

I like that once you've beaten the game, you can play the extended dungeon from the very start. Tougher challenges, better loot. Can't complain about that. ^.^

Torchlight is fantastic--the best Diablo clone I've yet seen, probably because the creators didn't shy from straight-up reusing the most enjoyable mechanics of its predecessors. I just wish I had more time to play it!

Nice tip on the soundtrack, I'll have to copy that over into my music library!

That's too bad, how many were you able to download?

Also how much did you end up spending?
"No problemo!"
