The difficulty of NSMB2 is largely a choose-your-own adventure. The levels aren't long, and getting through isn't too hard at all. Getting all of the collectible coins ups the challenge a bit, as does going for the red-ring challenges. And then the bonus levels can be something else! I don't know that anything is really sticking with me as I play, tho. (most recently beat April 2019) 
Typical Nintendo charm wrapped into the Switch’s iteration of 3D Mario. I love that stars litter each world, and you can find them without getting booted back to a level-select screen.
