I would think that Nananan Nahts II would be average at best, soul sucking at worst.

Don't forget to play Esper Dream 2!

Thracia 776 huh? I hear that one is brutal. Genealogy is loverly, but complex and not exactly replay friendly.

Yeah, I remember Otomedius Excellent. Talk about Konami's dark period. Ninety Nine Nights II, with over one million troops.

Kick fcking ass, Lagrange Point. Now there's Konami in their Metroid prime.

Yo, hey! After years away from backloggery I am back using it and want to connect with like-minded people, get inspired to play some games, and maybe discover new games or series. Probably found you through some other follow, as we play similar games and you work/do as a hobby on gaming localization and so do I.
Hope you dont mind the follow!

And by the way, a few days ago I found an old cd case with my PS3 games and Folklore was there. Got me thinking that this game should have gotten some more attention as I had a great time with it and I would love to see a remake or a sequel!

I've always been partial to Ys VI myself as my favorite Ys game, but I do like Origin too - I really ought to play through the whole game as the other two characters, I've played through it twice as Yunica lol.

Wait, do they have (complete) fan translations or don't they? Because Phantasia on PSX is no doubt the best version and Persona 2 part 1... I mean, I can't seem to get into SMT like I used to, but if that has a complete translation, could still work.

Super Hydlide is a pretty good port of Hydlide 3. I see no faults as far as porting the game goes, but the game itself certainly takes some getting used to, mostly thanks to the weight system. It does make it stand out, at least.

Minnie thanks for the suggestions. It's unfortunate Tales of Phantasia and Persona 2 part 1 haven't gotten fan translations (I wonder if I can compensate with Tales of Destiny 1?) Outta all those you listed, Omega Boost and Cho Aniki would likely be the ones I'd go for.

Hey, cool about EGG. Sounds like they're hitting off well. I saw they're adding Hydlide 3, but I already have the MD one.

It's a good tool, and it can carry over the second generation! IIRC repairing it costs like 20k

Yeah, it's a game where you shouldn't let anyone die because every unit is important. However, the game is completely doable with substitutes!

I did try to get into Street Fighter 3 somewhat recently, and I don't know what it was, but it just didn't click with me; maybe I wasn't patient enough to really put in the time, or it could be that I just suck at Fighters now. I definitely suck at Racers I used to play a lot; part of getting old, I guess. I've heard of Melty Blood, but I've never played it. Under Night in-Birth seemed pretty cool when I played it years ago during a free weekend (must've been during EVO), but when I got to it recently, I just... couldn't play it.

Oh, so they don't forget to properly balance the games, so you blast through the first one, and then wind up grinding until THE WORMS SHOW UP TO FEAST ON YOUR DECAYING CORPSE SHIVA H VISNHU EVEN OLDSCHOOL DRAGON WARRIOR WASN'T THIS GRINDY by the end of the second game, like in the Turbo CD version? That's good to hear, at least.

I can't speak to the Turbo version, but Memories of Celceta is absolutely solid; don't remember if I said this, but it's the bridge between 7 and 8, and it leans more toward 8, so it's not so damn grindy with the special attacks. I didn't not like 5; I just found it to be the perfect 5/10 game, because of how basic most things were. I was all, "TOPDOWNYSWITHANATTACKBUTTONWOOOOOOO!" but that just brought it up to regular Zelda. Iunno; it just felt like it was missing something, and I couldn't really identify what the something was. I did really enjoy the cat system; that's where you check drawers and buckets by just touching them, so you explore every town by rubbing your face all over everything like a cat. More games need the cat system.

I can't explain it, but even though I don't like the low-poly aesthetic that calls back to that era of "not old or new, but middle school, fifth grade, like junior high" era of video games, they always manage to do something interesting with it. That and mundane urban landscapes; they usually make those special, somehow. If you're looking for something abstract, but not so much so as to be unplayable or beyond thematic comprehension, I'd highly recommend anything that Analgesic has put out: Anodyne 2 and All Our Asias are my favorites, but even my least favorite, Sephonie, is still very good. The general vibe of most of them is perfect for winter sunsets.

Some of that seems like it's finding progressively sharkier sharks to jump all the time; there was one where this boy was dating twin girls, and they knew about it and were okay with it being a threesome, but he's from that era where anime was about a young man who's absolutely terrified of sex, so naturally, he's in a state of perpetual... flusterment? Is that a word: flusterment? That and naturally, he develops a crush on the socially awkward nerd girl and hijinks ensue.

Well, that's probably going to be quite some time, since I'll either have to upgrade this PC or build a new one altogether pretty soon; I've spent the last several days offline because I couldn't get my browser to even open, and I JUST got it up and running again a few minutes ago. That's the least of my worries right now, though, as I've been getting memory management errors that straight-up crash the entire system, and even worse, I've had one of my hard drives sometimes just DISENGAGE, and it can be a crapshoot as to whether or not it's "connected" when I reboot. It's a 4TB SSD that I use as my main hard drive (there's a much smaller SSD that I use as a C drive to boot the thing and smaller tasks like that), and I don't know if that means the damn cables are bad or what; I've never had anything like this happen with any computer I've ever had before, and I've been working with one since about... 1987, I think? Might've been earlier. And yeah, an Apple II CE is a bit different from a modern day PC, but still, I've seen some shit in my time.

Anyway, that's a really weird DRM system; don't think I've ever heard of anything quite like that before. They're probably banking on most people just keeping the subscription because it's easier that way, and the exceptions aren't worth policing it.

FE4! It's one of my fave FE games!

If you didn't know a character who joins in chapter 3 carries the Valkyrie Staff that can revive a dead unit. It's repaireable but very expensive

[Link] "When is he gonna play Gotta Protectors?! [sobbing] " (I mean this in jest of course, you can play it when you're ready.)

Hey look at that. "Cosmic Fantasy Collection." $50 for a PCE CD and a SEGA CD RPG, translated and put on Nintendo Switch. That's great. Ain't it great we're finally diving deep and getting games like this? Maybe Edia will work with Victor Ireland of Working Designs to bring somma those 16-bit games to modern audiences (untouched of course, let's not George Lucas things just because people now get offended by words like "retarded." If you wanna go that route, remaster/remake em) Or maybe Konami can maybe get off their fat asses and start putting more archival Hudson Soft stuff, or maybe we'll finally start seeing Turbografx on Switch Online.

To be fair, I don't know why it crossed mine; aside from a few matches of 4 in the arcades, that was the last time I even touched a Mortal Kombat game. I tend to lean Capcom when it comes to Fighters, and I'm mostly of the opinion that those peaked with Darkstalkers 3, even though I do still enjoy some Marvel vs. Capcom 2/3.

Most knifes are sharp. Some knives are VERY sharp. Cutco knives are irresponsibly sharp. The scissors can cut a penny into a corkscrew without much effort. The butter knives ARE ALSO STEAK KNIVES. Perhaps the best endorsement is the time I was reaching into the dishwasher for something that had fallen into the back, but couldn't move my hand any further. I pushed... pushed... couldn't figure out why it wasn't moving. That is until I saw the paring knife HALFWAY UP TO THE HILT INTO MY PALM. Now, I'm pretty durable, and my skin is pretty tough - my asshole cat once pushed me down an entire flight of stairs, and even though I SOMERSAULTED to the bottom, I didn't even have rug burn - but this thing just slipped right in; no problem. I was standing there asking my lady to get me a bandage while I held my hand shut, but I had to get my own because I don't know if it was how far the knife had gone in or how much blood was spraying everywhere, but WIFEY.EXE HAS STOPPED WORKING. So yes, despite the fact that the name sounds like it came from the 1950s version of Wish.com, Cutco knives are VERY good, and come with a forever guarantee; if you break one doing something stupid, like cutting down a tree or something, they'll replace it for half price. Just don't go selling them, because Vector Marketing is an MLM.

I do feel that Chronicles is the best version of those two games; my main issue with it is that... it was still those two games. ...and as much as I don't like bump combat, I have to admit that I do think I'll be picking up Angeline Era once it comes out, though that might be more a testament to the idea that I'd follow Melos Han-Tani and Marina Kittaka in to the depths of Hell, itself. The OVAs are good! Pretty much everything you'd want from the adventures of Adol Christin, except interactivity, and in this case, that's the main selling point for me!

Timespinner's a great Platventure; it got a few people whining, because it's one of those, "Try to find the straight person" games (and depending on which timeline you choose, you might not!), but for all the games where every character is explicitly straight, I think we can have a few that are unrealistic for the exact opposite reason now and then. It's good fun, great visuals, cool weapon variety (even if most of them are the same 2/3 elementals, and the other elementals get one each), and a thoroughly interesting soundtrack; there's this one song that sounds almost like some kind of '60s/'70s folk number, but also with a harp, and it's probably my favorite one.

Just for laughs, I decided to browse the main page, and while I was going to say something about the Plaxton Beaver 2 (a model bus by Corgi), or maybe even the book (looks like a manga) titled Hugging Until you get Pregnant, I got totally distracted by the fact that they're selling PRINT MAGAZINES. I guess I do see magazines at the market checkout, but they're from March, 2024. THEY'RE FROM THE FUTURE! But yeah, I've heard that games for those systems are absurdly priced in this day and age, though I know almost nothing about the retro market - aside from the shit that everyone knows, like Little Samson, Bubble Bobble 2, and Flintstones are really expensive - so maybe those big box PC games are really expensive, too. I would REALLY like to get into Sharp X68000 - even more than the MSX - but that's looking to be pretty far down the road, because of the stacks of backlogs I have, along with all the other projects I'm working on.
Welcome to the Cathedral of Shadows, where demons gather.
