Master of Unlocking: Majority of games are completed
Ya know what don't get played enough? Nintendo's Mole Mania on Game Boy. It came out the same year as Pokémon did in Japan, so it got overlooked. It did no better over here, since the 32 and 64 bit era was in its infancy. Anyway, I'll recommend that too! The best way is the Super Game Boy, but the easiest is the 3DS VC. Man... why didn't they just implement Super Game Boy features in the 3DS releases of Donkey Kong, Kirby's Dream Land 2, etc.? Why does it take a company like M2 to think about stuff like that?

I love it! I know it's not going to be as deep, but in terms of gameplay, I feel like it's the game I wanted Deus Ex to be; lots of the same elements, but it's not so goddamn sluggish. The writing is excellent, and I love having lots of viable options for proceeding with this or that quest. ...is what I would've said until last night. I'm at the second main story quest, and FUCKING HELL is it frustrating; I feel like I can't win no matter what I do, just because I picked the wrong build. Not great design, and the built-in work-arounds are some of the jankiest elements of the entire game, so they're not really viable options. I managed to sneak around by throwing a bucket of ravens at someone to distract them, but I missed a thing, and now I have to find it WHILE SNEAKING AROUND, and I don't have anything all that useful in my spell library, like obfuscate. My build focuses largely on combat and lockpicking, which had gotten me this far with no real problems. I imagine it gets better after this, but this particular mission really sucks.

Speaking of new games, YOU HAVE THE DRUAGA NO TOU FUSHIGI NA DUNGEON GAME! I'm really interested in hearing how that one is; Fushigi na Dungeon is always hit-or-miss for me.

Oh, man, it was a fuckin' trip; they sure don't teach you how to deal with that in your college education courses. Courses that were largely useless that I aced by learning that the correct answer is always the middle ground between the two opposing theories you're learning. There is SO much theory, and when that replaces experience, because your professor hasn't stood in front of a classroom since the 1970s, you get a lot of quaint ideas like, "The idle mind is The Devil's workshop, so make sure they always have something to do." Yeah, teenagers LOVE busywork. So, this kid was a member of the Bloods, and for whatever reason, he really liked me; this other kid kept talking in class, and he said, "Shut the fuck up or I'mma stab you." A few chuckles are heard. "The FUCK is you laughin' at?" No chuckles after that one. But you learn REAL fast what to do and how to leverage your advantages, because an in-class stabbing is a real career killer.

It is pretty good, I'd say, but it's hard to be completely certain, since I've only ever had it mixed with rice, bacon, eggs, and cashews. Might be the best dish I've ever invented, especially if we don't count dessert. Oh, absolutely; probably some kind of savage that subsists primarily on raw fish and deer carcasses. Artist's rendering: [Link]

I'd have to check some kind of timeline, but I wonder if Zero came out after 4, and that's actually technically first, with Zero elaborating on that. Zero had been out on PC for quite some time before I made any kind of attempt at playing them, so I'm really out of the loop, there. Not like Mega Man, where I could tell you that 6, X, and Game Boy 5 all came out around the same time right off the top of my head.

Oh, I'm not speaking to clients like that; that's just me jabbering away in a sad attempt to stay conscious, because I'm so good at sleeping that I frequently go 3-5 consecutive days without any. Ah, yes, the Retail Boulevard of Broken Dreams, I know it well; we had a lot of people who had no interest in pharmacy at one of my old jobs, the worst of which was probably the astrophysicist.

I remember that stuff, not only because I used to teach it, but because I had so many eureka moments about the stupid shit they used to teach us in English class. Like conjugating verbs; WORTHLESS in English, but once you see it in another language, it finally makes sense why we had to write pages and pages of nonsense like "he/she/it will have been going". OH! Because the verb form isn't just the same fucking word with or without an S at the end in other languages! I get it! But yes, you will learn much more useful stuff from native speakers; a lot of the time, if you use the stuff you learned in class, they'll just look at you like you're speaking Javanese, because no actual human speaks like that. I'd love to know what that sounds like to them, but I'm hardly fluent.

I did see that! I'm excited for you! I'm tempted to play through it again, myself. I think I might need some kind of oldschool interlude soonish to keep from burning out on everything on my GOG horizon right now. Maybe the SMS version of Bubble Bobble and the Japanese version of Enduro Racer, both of which I've heard have content I haven't seen before.

I really tried to get into Final Fantasy Legend, but I just couldn't, so I haven't put any kind of time into 2 or 3. Are they really that much better?

Oh shit, The Bouncer, too!? I almost want to try that, but Squenix Action games usually feel wrong to me, and I don't know if I want to make that much of a commitment. Not sure I know The Last Remnant at all, but Unlimited SaGa was the game that killed the SaGa franchise... or would have if it'd ever been popular. I'd say it counts, but that certainly is an unusual birthday to share.

I haven't, and I don't really intend to; Racing is just not really my genre. I did play another Racing RPG... I think it was for the TurboGrafx-16, but I sure as hell can't remember the title. Didn't know that he was involved, though; I only knew about it from an old fellow Top 10 writer.

Oh, did Terminal Cut play a lot better than the original? I tried that on PS2 a few years ago, and like most Third-Person Shooters, it just didn't feel to me like it was designed by a sane person. Yeah yeah Pot, meet Kettle, but it's true! The only one I can think of that I've played that felt good was the Tomb Raider reboot, and maybe there wasn't a lot of shooting? I'll have to pay attention to that when I replay the GOG version, but I was really surprised; it was a freebie on Steam right when the lockdown happened, and I enjoyed it a hell of a lot more than I'd expected to. But yes, the Seiken Densetsu 3 remake was just above and beyond anything I could possibly have expected.

We have Exploding Kittens, and we played it on a train ride back from Chicago. Funny thing is that every time we came out of a tunnel, the box would meow at us, because it thought the lid was closed; apparently it uses the light in the room to determine that. I've always loved his snarky sense of humor; that and In Your Face Cake are the only 2 comic strips that I follow, though back in the day, I did love The Far Side.

Alright, y'all. I'm starting to redo my goals section for 2022. If there's a game you want to see me try, then let me know soon so I can add it in.

I plan on beating all your suggestions by the end of 2022, and I'm always down to try something new. Hell, if it wasn't for my friends' suggestions, I probably would not be into Digimon, Umineko, AI The Somnium Files, or Vampire the Masquerade like I am now.

Activity on here will probably slow down a bit until the new year since my schedule is getting absolutely packed. If you wanna chat over the holidays, feel free to shoot me a DM and I'd be happy to give you my Discord username

Oh, so you get that false sense of security, and then BAM! someone from one of those states. I've gotten calls like that where I work now, too; one old dude actually said, "I hope you didn't vote for Biden," totally unprovoked. Of course, I've had to deescalate gang members threatening to stab their classmates as a teacher, so I'm usually pretty good at handling stuff like that.

I don't know how these people find me, either; this isn't a particularly diverse area. Granted, we did meet a small handful of them at conventions, but the rest just seem to materialize in my life. Even my token straight friends are misfits; my best friend is probably the only person who understands how my brain works, because she thinks like me. We're a step below that; we're all about each other, but any animals we have usually get free run of the house. Just not Chonkey Kong, because he's a gross boy.

Those were things she used in the chicken marinade; I have no idea what she does with a steak, to be completely honest. I think A1 steak sauce is involved? Well, the positions are flipped now; I'm waiting for my lady to come home with dinner, and hunger is just starting to set in. No idea when she'll be home, but since the kitchen is my own personal crafting system, I should be able to figure something out. Oooohh yeah, I'm one of those filthy fence-sitters your parents warned you about; my favorite Starburst is pink, the popular one, and my second-favorite is yellow, the least popular one. Then orange, and definitely red last. Red used to be my second-favorite, but I really don't like them anymore.

Okay, I was kinda thinking that that might've been it, and also that I may have just assumed that that was how he'd lost his eye when I first played Zero. Either way, he sure did get the shit beaten out of him.

Oh yes, that sounds very familiar. Sometimes, I'll just have specific things that my brain says in a weird accent or voice for no goddamn reason. Like if I'm going to work on some problem with someone's account, I'll internally say, "Okay, whatchu got?" Then, my brain starts up with that part from Afroman's song, Palmdale, that begins with,
"A White boy pulled up to my spot
he says, 'Hey, Home Boy, whatchu got?'
I squeezed a fat rock inside his hand
about 25 sheriffs jumped out the van;
Get down, Punk!"
Except all lackadaisical, like it's the Sex Offender Shuffle: [Link]

Okay, that's interesting, too; it's like almost like a... would you call that a reflexive possessive? Like it takes possession of itself and becomes a thing. It's one of those weird grammar things that you'd never expect to exist, but does make sense when in the proper context. Spanish has that with esto, eso, and aquel; esto and eso are easy enough as this and that, respectively, but aquel is "that one over there", so distance is factored in for some reason? Like aquella puta is exactly the same as thot, and thot was weird enough when it became a thing in colloquial English.

AM2R is pretty damn good; for one thing, it has more than just the one song that plays near the surface... including some kind of weird disco remix of Lower Norfair? That and the controls are basically the same as in Fusion, so it just feels good. I don't remember a lot of it, but I'd definitely play it again.

Oh, Tarzan's Jank Jungle™ certainly had me on the ropes, but I was able to get through it. But that fucking cave in Aladdin Land was just... it was like MC Escher designed it after a particularly severe concussion. Similarly, I think any future Final Fantasy marathons will exclude 2; Kawazu did finally get it right like 8 games later, but that one's really rough, and doesn't offer much of anything to compensate for it. The overworld music is really good... one of the titans has a neat color palette... really, I'm struggling to find anything it does to really make me want to play it again.

Right!? I was expecting the remake to be good; not for it to blow my fucking mind. Had I not played Creepy Castle in January, it'd probably be the best thing I've played all year. I did kinda miss the palette swaps for the class changes, especially the crazy hair colors, but with such a wonderful world to explore, I can't really complain. You can tell that whoever worked on this one loved the original game SO MUCH.

The Oatmeal is great; I love almost everything he puts out. In fact, to celebrate 10 years of living together, my lady got me a signed print of his comic of Godzilla rising out of the ocean, seeing murder hornets, and then going back in with middle fingers hoisted into the sky. He signed, "Here's to 10 years of not doing this to each other," which she'd actually come up with; I was pretty surprised, because it sounds exactly like something he'd say.

Oh, and happy anniversary! Looks like I missed it.

Man it'll be like New Year's Rockin' Eve! Ya got Dick Clark hosting, talking about how exciting the release of SMTV is, with the excitable crowd whooping and waving to the camera. Honestly you don't lose too much avoiding reviews and leaks. As you, I prefer to play without previous knowledge of the game and just enjoy the experience. Just five days more and we could finally have another maneline entry! I'm so excited to play another great MegaTen!

And don't worry, we could say that I have secure means to "acquire" the game.

By the way. Happy Birthday! Sorry for the late congratulations, I didn't know this month was your birthday. I hope you had a great day!

Oh... yeah, I'm sure you've been subjected to some next-level customer service bullshit, even worse than enduring the diatribe of an old man who's pissed that you don't psychically know his lottery number or the made-up jargon that goes with them. The doctor thing kinda pisses me off, because you're supposed to go to 8 years of medical school to help people; not wave your big title-dick around in everyone's face. The Hillary supporter line doesn't surprise me at all, though; we're in that kind of area, so we see shit like a man with a pick-up truck so damn big that he dries it with a leaf blower. My lady almost drove off the fucking road with that one.

So, this one time, he and one of the other Fucksgiving guests were verbally sparring with sexual quips, and he said, "Sorry, Girl; I need a dude." There was a pause as I scanned the room: bisexuals, pansexuals, asexuals, and what I call a hemisexual (attracted only to the top halves of people), and I said, "Alan... You're the only one here with a preference; does that make you the straightest person in the house?" The wave of realization swept over everyone, and I asked, "How are you going to explain this to your friends back in New York?" and without missing a beat, he screamed, "I DON'T KNOW HOW TO EXPLAIN YOUR EXISTENCE!" Never have I been so succinctly and thoroughly summed up in a single sentence. So yeah, he's a fun guy to have around. We do, because we don't want any human children, but we're not full-blown "fur baby" about it; we just casually call them the kids. MAYBE I'll tell my parents what their grandchungus is up to when we're hanging out.

I'm not sure she has a special kind of dish she likes to prepare, so much as it's usually steak, because I don't eat red meat, so I'm not going to be the one making it. We actually just made a batch last weekend, and if I'm going by what the ingredients looked like, I'd say it mostly involves soy sauce, corn starch and garlic powder; doesn't seem to complicated. I'm not a big meat eater, but I will say that in terms of food, she is ideal, because she hates pink Starburst. You know: the best ones.

I wouldn't say it's super spoilery, since you already have at least one version of how the Joker got these scars Majima lost his eye, so let me just say that I'd thought that I'd remembered him losing it from the torture he endured while chained up in the basement when Shimano was kicking his ass for fucking up.
Welcome to the Cathedral of Shadows, where demons gather.
