I completed Hard Mode Challenge 1 (listed in the previous comment) on the third of fall, year 3. Now I'm doing Hard Mode 2, which is the no fishing variant.

Objective: Fill all the community center bundles

Rules:
- you may not buy anything from Pierre, including his stand at festivals, except for one bouquet. You may not buy from Jojamart at all.
- you may not buy fodder from Marnie's ranch; you have to get it yourself from grass for the whole challenge
- you may clear rocks, weeds, and logs, and dig up worm spots, anywhere in town, but the only trees you may cut down are the ones on your own farm. You may cut stumps in the secret woods.
- You may may only one purchase from the traveling cart each day it comes. If you passed on buying something on a Friday, you may buy two items on Sunday. THIS ONLY APPLIES TO THE IMMEDIATE NEXT VISIT AND DOES NOT STACK OR CARRY OVER; if you forego buying anything or only buy one item that Sunday, it starts over at one the following Friday.
- you may not use the fishing rod at any time
- you may not buy stone from Robin
- you may only visit Clint once per day
- you may not buy food from Gus
- if you've been unable to finish a crop bundle by winter of year two, you may buy ONE seed pack per night of the night market

Any other purchases or methods of collection are fair game. Feel free to PM me if you wanna try it and have any questions! I'm still working on mine but if I finish it, I might try it with no fishing instead of no mining.

I've created a challenge in Stardew Valley that I thought somebody might enjoy hearing about or trying out. I don't have a good name for it yet so I just call it Hard Mode.

Objective: Fill all the community center bundles

Rules:
- you may not buy anything from Pierre, including his stand at festivals, except for one bouquet. You may not buy from Jojamart at all.
- you may not go into the mine or skull cavern. Breaking rocks anywhere on the surface is fine, including the quarry once you have access to it. The ONLY exception is immediately after the mine opens, you may take ONE day to go into the mines to collect enough copper to unlock the furnace recipe. Anything else you find on this one day is yours to do with as you please, but after that one day you are never allowed back.
I'm probably going to be poisoned and such a lot in the next few months; I run the video game room at Chessiecon and am constantly on the lookout for new games that people will like. Especially multiplayer games; I'm an only child and didn't have such need until I took this job XD

Putting my old Escapists notes here for posterity.
Fhurst Peak Correctional Facility: 8 days
Center Perks: 9 days
Stalag Flucht: 16 days
Fort Bamford: 15 days
Camp Epsilon: 12 days days
Shankton State Pen: 17 days
Jungle Compound: 14 days
San Pancho: 14 days
HMP Irongate: 24 days
Alcatraz: 12? days (I was expecting my plan to fail and didn't pay too much attention to the day)

Fhurst Peak took the longest because it was the first one I did and I was doing the Shawshank Redemption method; tunneling out of the cell directly, no matter how long it took. The others, I spend a lot of time making sure I have the things I need before going anywhere. And sometimes it'd've taken fewer days if I had better luck finding materials (IRONGATE o9) or knew the quicker way out vs. what I was trying. Shankton State was a really good example of that; the easy way to go out was right where I never thought to look XD

Also, a lot of these escapes end up being after midnight so I never know how many days to actually put; do I put the day I moved to escape or the day it is when I get out? XD

I'm trying to think of This War of Mine the same way I think of Oregon Trail; its entire purpose is to teach you how quickly things can go horribly wrong, and push your limits of how far you can and will go in a bleak, unforgiving scenario.

Except when someone dies in Oregon Trail, I laugh. When someone dies in TWoM, I cry. A lot. And all I can do is pray I can pick the pieces back up.
Safe and sound in its shell, the precious pearl is the slave of the currents.
