Heh, I've got to admit, that's pretty shocking to read, given that you still seemed to be pretty hyped about Y0 on Twitter, let alone that your Backloggery theme is still praising the coming of Y5 :D Still, I can definitely see why you're burned out on this franchise, given that even if I spent almost 200 hours on Y5, it just felt like the game is having more fun with its side content rather than the story, which is slowly turning into Dead Or Alive with how everything gets reset at the end of the newer installments. At the end of Y5, Saejima goes back to prison for the third time, Haruka is not an idol anymore and Kiryu most likely won't come back to being a taxi driver. And while I can definitely see that Y0 is the Yakuza game worth waiting for, I'm really worried about what's going to happen next, because this franchise is turning into a ridiculous soap opera at this point. Also, Akiyama. Seriously, the only reason why he was in Y5 was because he's popular, he's the only protagonist who feels tacked on and who should probably stay in Y4. If they're going to bring him back in Y6 in the exact same way, I'm going to very angry, same goes to Shinada - he's okay in Y5, but I really don't see any reason to keep him as a protagonist in the later games.

But on a merrier note, I see that you got into Doom, my beloved id franchise :D Does that mean that you're going to dust off your PS3 to play Doom Classic Complete as well, for the sake of good times? :D From what I've seen from the gameplay footage, including the bosses, it does look okay, even if it does feel a little strange, being stuck between the classic games and Doom 3, even if it's definitely closer to the former. One thing that definitely hasn't surprised me at all was the fans raging at the new Cyberdemon, it's almost impossible to please them in this regard. Personally, I do think that this new version of the character is much better than the joke he was in Doom 3, but there's still something lacking, he's just nowhere near as scary as the original Cyberdemon. I think he's just a little too flashy in the new game. One thing I do love about this new installment though is that they brought back Spider Mastermind, the second classic Doom boss and the one who got completely ignored in Doom 3. Also, you know that we're living in the sad times for FPS games where seeing a character being able to double jump makes you go: "Wooooooaaaaaah, that's so fresh, I haven't seen that in ages!"

...kill some time, even more so with how cheap it is. Of course, the game isn't really anything to write home about, because even after playing it for a longer while after sending that last message, I just can't think of anything else to add to my impressions of it, it's just that simple as a game. Maybe aside of the fact that sidequests in this game really needed more variety, because even if there are few based on dialogues or bringing a certain item to someone, most of them boil down to "go there and strip more dudes". It's still impressive how much advertisement there is in this game, it's like they wanted to promote literally everything you can find in Akihabara. Personally, I'm not interested in that place, but I appreciate the effort at making this sort of tribute to Japan's biggest anime-related district.

By the way, if you're planning to move on with Y5 anytime soon, prepare yourself for a lot of DREAMS. No, really, it's like every cutscene starting from Haruka/Akiyama's chapter needs to talk about dreams. "She wanted me to carry on her dream", "I will fight you... FOR THE SAKE OF HIS DREAMS!", "We should move on... And protect people's DREAMS", that's basically how most of the cutscenes go in this game in the second half. I know that the dreams are the theme of this game because of its Japanese subtitle, but they really are pushing it at this point. For now, I'm halfway done with the Coliseum myself, this one's the biggest pain in the ass out of all of the Completion-related things, even bigger than the Minigames, mostly because Akiyama and Shinada simply aren't made for fighting the top-tier enemies Kiryu and Saejima should fight. But after I'm done with that, I'll be pretty much done with the side content. Who would've thought that I'd spend around 200 hours on this game and it wouldn't even feel like a grind, great job, Sega. Keep it up.

Even D5, an entry *still* being more typically anime story-wise, knows how to stay in-line and sticking with what worked (and what didn't, but that's another topic) in the past, so it really makes me wonder about some things.

Yeah, I really should start playing the PS3 Disgaea games, now tht I'm thinking about it, even if I'd personally want to skip D3 and 4 and go straight to Disgaea D2, because I need more Laharl. *laughs* I don't know, it was always weird to me to play a Disgaea game without him. But damn, this is going to take a long time either way, as far as actually getting to playing these games goes, because my Backlog is just piling up. It's definitely my fault, I constantly tend to pick games focused heavily on grinding for weeks.

The OST itself is pretty good actually, but still, I suppose it comes down how long your tolerance reaches for easier games, and for more "weeby" stuff like this.

Oh yeah, I remember checking the OST out some time ago and I was actually pleasantly surprised by some of the songs - it's still not the kind of Soundtrack I'd download to listen to, but it was also the only Neptunia OST I've actually listened to more than once. As for the tolerance, it actually depends in my case - I could stomach Akiba's Strip and its constant Otaku talk and Akihabara propaganda, but I just couldn't stand Atelier Totori and felt like I'm dying as a big, strong man by playing something so girly and childish, so it just depends on what kind of anime game we're talking about. At least Neptunia is more comedic and wacky in tone compared to Atelier games, so I can see myself enjoying it (If Senran Kagura succeeded, why shouldn't this, in all honesty), especially once I'd find a character I like, so I could enjoy the story bits as well. Still, I'm planning to play these games in order, so it'll be some time before I'll play Megadimension Neptunia VII, even more so with how I still need a PS4. At least I'll have enough time to get through the first three games, even if the first one is going to be a pain to play - even watching the gameplay is painful.

I wasn't planning to get this game for at least a while, but it always seemed strangely weird in a good way, so it's good to know that the game does deliver on that regard, being this fairly obscure little thing you still can get your fun's worth out of it despite the limitations.

Yeah, after beating it 4 times I can safely say that it's a good title if you just want to...

...many technical problems. The game's suffering from framerate drops, bad pop-ups (meaning that you sometimes need to wait 10 seconds for the NPC to load before you can talk to them) and very clunky combat. Now don't get me wrong, the game is playable and even fun. Definitely more fun than The Witch And The Hundred Flaws. But it does require time to get used to it. Generally, it plays a little like a Yakuza game - you explore the Akihabara district, visit stores, complete sidequests from citizens and beat people up. The main difference is that while in Yakuza you could only get into fights with some randomly spawning thugs and it placed you in this small arena surrounded by an invisible wall, here you can fight anyone by slapping them. If the person won't run away screaming, they will fight. This also leads to another thing - anyone can get caught in a fight, which may lead to a small onslaught of high school students and gothic lolitas beating each other up. That's why the best way to handle the fights is to not wander off too much to not drag too many people into it, because if one of the vampires will be passing by, s/he will join the fight. Luckily, it is possible to run away from fights. When it comes to combat, you use the three buttons - Circle, Triangle and X. Each of them delivers a blow to a certain part of the enemy's body, which you have to damage before being able to take off the clothes from the enemy's body. It's a simple mechanic, but it works, the problem is that the movements of your character are very clunky, the fact that he's a loser who can't fight for shit doesn't help either, even more so when every other person is more capable at fighting than you, even maids. Even Shinada from Y5 was a better fighter than the protagonist of Akiba's Trip. That's why it's important to enchance your equipment whenever you can and always explore the city with one of the girls, especially after you'll learn the team attack which completely strips the enemy you're locked on to (and I can't hide the fact that I really like Senjougahara's team attack, they couldn't make her a bigger dominatrix than that *laughs). Overall, it is a fun little curiosity from the creators of Way Of The Samurai, and like these games, it's mostly about customizing your character along the way. Not really a must-buy, but I'm enjoying it for what it is, the story is as simple as it can get and the gameplay has flaws, but the game is strangely fun either way.

And as for it being unplayable, yep, even to this day I have no clue what this game is even supposed to be to begin with

I'd assume that it was supposed to be like Diablo, except set in wacky anime setting, but it just failed hard. At least Diablo had some depth to it as far as the characters and their abilities go, this game boils down to mashing. And going from point A to B, only to fight the boss whose attack pattern can only be rivaled by Bowser from the first Mario game - walk for two seconds, do the attack, rinse and repeat. And the "comedy"... Holy shit, when I reached the part where Metallica strips the inquisitor girl naked and then orders the Hundred Knight to shove various things up her ass, I was close to just shutting off the game and breaking the disc, but I've decided to stop on tearing the artbook to pieces. Also, fun fact, the inquisitor gir's backstory involves her younger sister being raped to death, really fits this comedic scene of her being sexually abused by Metallica. I actually spent three hours playing Koi-Koi in Yakuza 5 right after dropping this game and I had more fun playing this card minigame than going through The Bitch And The Rape Jokes' Might.

and it's all the more ironic when I got trough the Japanese demo of Megadimension Neptunia VII, and I legit grasped more things about it than the witch game that was completely in English.

How was it? I'm actually legitimately interested in this installment, mostly because I want this franchise to improve, it's got a lot of potential.

But to steer away from this abomination, I saw you playing Akiba's Trip 2 lately, how is it?

In a single word? Yakuzamonogatari. You play as a pervy guy who gets turned into a vampire by some generic bad guys, only to be saved and become a familiar of a vampire girl who behaves like Rei Ayanami. Afterwards, he spends the rest of the game fighting other vampires by stripping them along with his waifus, including Hitagi herself: [Link] Okay, the character's name is Shion, but the designs were handled by the same guy who designed Monogatari characters and you can tell that he wanted to cater to Senjougahara fans here :D It also doesn't help that the obligatory childhood friend looks and behaves like Karen Araragi, except she's blonde. When it comes to gameplay, it's what you'd expect from Acquire. An ambitious concept, plagued by...

Not at all, I only used blue hair as an example because it was the first thing that came to my mind regarding the typical moe blobs straight out of Atelier games, maybe I should've used the pink hair argument instead, silly me. Still, it seems like the store has got some problems sending the game, so I'll probably use this occasion to give my money to Capcom instead, given that the Resident Evil Zero HD's release this week caught me off guard, and it was one of the game I always wanted to play but couldn't becuase it used to be a GameCube exclusive. Also, the current PSN sale has got Demon's Souls and Dark Souls II with all DLCs in it, so that's another reason for me to pass on The Hundred Knight.

*EDIT*

Screw this, I'm selling this game. You were right about it in the end, it's downright unplayable. Both the gameplay and the story are just dreadful, I've spent 12 hours on this crap and I just can't take it anymore. Also, rape jokes are apparently so funny that every cutscene after the boss fight needs to have one. Was this game seriously made by the people behind Disgaea?

because there are so many side-ops in this game that dividing gameplay between them and story missions is needed even in post game.

Yeah, that's the reason why I never moved on with the Main Ops until I've finished all Side Ops avaible. And even then it gets bad after you'll finish the Truth mission, because they just dump the remaining Mine Clearing, Tank Unit and Wandering Puppets missions on you at once, so you just have to grit your teeth and bear it. Speaking of Side Ops, have you beaten the one where you need to save Kojima again? I give it that - it's actually a pretty funny parody of the scene where Snake is saving Miller at the beginning of the game, except without Skulls, aka the reason why I'm still not replaying the mission with finding Code Talker at the manor. I think that, ironically, th eworst side activity to me was the Paz's sidequest - I didn't know you have to show her every single photo you obtain, so I had to take care of them all at once, but the problem is that you can only give her one photo at a time, so I had to show her a photo, go back to the helicopter, land in Mother Base again and show her another photo, it must've looked pretty strange to my men, with Snake departing and then coming back to enter one building beofre flying away and coming back again. Ironically, the ending cutscene of this side quest was sadder to me then Quiet's sacrifice, and Paz wasn't even real in this game.

Did you tried the previous games?

I'm playing the third one right now, mostly because the first two games are on the PS2, so I was a little lazy when it comes to finding them on some auction here, but the third game is as low budget and old school as it can get - graphics straight out of PS2, rather small world to explore (it's like 75% of the size of Kamurocho), but it does have a certain something that makes it quite a curiosity of a video game, mostly thanks tot his general freedom you have. You get 100 days to spend in the village before Nobunaga arrives and what you have to do is completely up to you, there's no objective or anything - you can kill who you want and leave whenever you want to start the cycle over, keeping the weapons you've obtained, money and skills. Same goes to dying - you also restart the game but keep everything. I'm still looking forward to the fourth game though, because I really like the over the top comedy they went for, while the third game is more like an Akira Kurosawa movie.

*has 40,000 money, loses it after accidentally ending up in the middle of a snake pit*

Reminds me of the times when I've decided to explore some late game locations in Dark Souls, only to lose 150.000 Souls becuase of some brainfart-induced mistake. Good times, especially in the places where bonfires were pretty uncommon.

I'm over 100 side-missions at this point, might try out some of the "harder" versions of previous main missions.

It's actually too bad that you're doing these now, beating Quiet on Extreme difficulty unlocks the Sniper Wolf costume for her, which makes her design look much, much more bearable, complete with the blonde hair. For now I'm preparing myself for the Extreme version of the "steal the truck while the Skulls are fisting thine butt" mission, I'm afraid that D-Walker's Gatling Gun might not be enough to get rid of them this time, even if he worked well enough in the regular version of this mission to give me an S-Rank.

Also, I've just started paying attention to the Way Of The Samurai franchise. It's basically a low-budget Yakuza, which is still something I'll take every day over the usual AAA selection.
