That's interesting. Maybe it's something special with the XBLA rerelease, but I didn't have to get too close to the edge for the eggs to hit her. It turns out that was the phase I could most consistently quickly beat. I'd climb the stone ledge, straight fire three eggs, and then as soon as they hit her, I'd run to the next spot she'd stop at and pre-fire three more eggs to hit her as soon as possible, so she wouldn't even have a chance to start firing her fireballs.

I feel you on the Nintendo anti-piracy/hypocrisy stuff... I'm fed up with them being much more concerned on working to bring down stuff than improving their products. It's been six years since Switch released and the OS still feels placeholder, with a ridiculous folder feature that increases the amount of steps to find installed games instead of lowering it. For real, sometimes it feels like I'm in a fever dream, can't believe they've never fleshed out Switch's UI. I'm with Gabe Newell on piracy being a services problem.

And we know that with Nintendo, it's not even just piracy we're talking about. They really go out of their way to fight harmless modding — Switch's 17.0 made Atmosphere's Incognito impossible to use. The Nintendo I grew up with and liked was the DS/3DS and Wii/Wii U one, and the current one looks nothing like it. Maybe it's better for people who'd rather have a system with third-party support than a gimmicky one, but for someone who's had PC as their main platform since 2012, I wish at least their consoles would be more like what they used to be when Iwata was still around.

I was honestly surprised on how tough Gruntilda's boss fight was on the first game, even with all the health upgrades and goodies provided by musical notes

The damn camera wouldn't stop straight, making it almost impossible to consistently shot the eggs into the Jinjonator statue while dodging Gruntilda's fire meteor minigun. Took me around six tries if I'm not mistaken

I can imagine just how badly Tooie runs on 64, with stages being much more crowded and stuff. I'm halfway through Tooie and so far I prefer the first game too, even though I appreciate Rare trying to create a more interconnected world with levels that are set up a bit more as parts of a bigger world rather than instanced/linear levels. My issue with it so far is it often feels like they went with this design choice just so the game would last longer as you struggle to find out whether you should just collect a couple of jiggies and skip to the next stage or not. At times it feels like they just want you to rush through the game and do an Any% run before attempting to explore and collect everything — but then there are skills you've gotta find and learn to advance anyway.

This is my first time hearing of Banjo-Kazooie: Grunty's Revenge! Out of all the "3D platformer turned isometric on GBA" games I've seen so far, this seems to be the best looking one. I just Googled a Banjo-Pilot longplay, skipped to a random part of the video and the first thing I see is Banjo chasing a desperate purple Jinjo in a dogfight

Nuts and Bolts... Yeah, haven't enjoyed the bits I've played either. The post-processing is crazy heavy and not being able to edit vehicles on the go sounds frustrating.

Funny thing, you're not the first person I hear say they'd pick Tooie over DK64 anytime. I'm starting to think they knew their ambitions would be justified because it would never be as bad as DK64.

Again, it's part people who won't try anything not super popular or Undertale fanatics. For the former, it's people who don't realize there exists an exorbitant amount of RPGs on the GBA alone they could check out, like Summon Night: Swordcraft Story, but they won't (unless their favorite YouTuber says it's an underrated hidden gem), and the latter is because Mother is associated with Undertale, and it's part of Internet culture, so therefore we need Mother 3 because of Undertale. But hey, that's my two cents, I'm sure other people here think differently.

I think it's less about their refusal to emulate and more their inability to go past Mother/EarthBound. Something about this franchise that causes people to see red and act irrational, I've never seen this kind of stuff with Phantasy Star. There exists so many other RPGs, but to some, it's always EarthBound, EarthBound, EarthBound.

I, too, hope Mother 3 never gets localized. The most we could get is maybe a remade version, but the original GBA version? Let it go, just emulate or get a repro cart. This series is already super popular already, no matter how many times people call it "underrated" or whatever, releasing Mother 3 isn't necessary. Congratulations, now go play something that isn't EarthBound or Chrono Trigger.

Octopath 1 and 2 are completely separate. I think there could be some nods to the first, but no characters or locations are shared. No reason to play/replay 1 unless you want to.

I have no idea about BG3. My brother got it for me on Steam as a holiday gift and I haven’t looked into any other versions or releases.

I share with you the frustration with the final boss in Banjo-Kazooie, it was horrible to have that test of patience in such a great game.

Your classification is quite interesting, thanks a lot! I never had a N64 so I'm just discovering these titles now because they are so popular and got re-released on Xbox 360. Banjo-Kazooie was neat, Conker's bad fur day was ok (I struggle a lot with the camera, and the humour wasn't very humorous to me), I replayed the remake though, it vastly improves the gameplay. And DK64 scares me, I don't think I'll play it :p

For Lilithday this year, I picked up Banjo-Tooie because, a couple of years ago, you told me that it took you 20 years to beat that game.

And so far, so good, really. The massive content of this game took me by surprise, I have been playing for like 15 hours now and I'm just at the 5th level... this game is sometimes, with all the quests, crypted things to do and the backtracking, more of an adventure game than a 3D platformer.

Also I added Zelda Oracle of Ages to Lilithday, I dunno if I will have the time to finish it before the 10th of march, but I'll give it a try. After all, I got it downloaded on my 3DS for quite some time now, and it is a super fun game.

Say, do you participate to Lilithday yourself? That would be nice, even if you don't enter in the score points contest as I do.
