For the most part, it is a wonderful thing to have. My sister has it, too, though maybe not as many intersensory connections. I do know that she has sound-to-touch, though, because she came to work one day, and as she got out of her car, I noticed that her face was bright red, she was sweating, and she immediately lit up a cigarette. Apparently, she'd had a raging orgasm just from the voice of a male vocalist.

Well, mission fucking accomplished, developer... I actually went back into the game, thinking that the second time wouldn't be as bad if I were prepared for it. I was wrong. *Dramatic anime closeup, complete with green background with lines rushing past my head.*

I'm a big fan of Darius, myself; it's probably my favorite Shooter series. I used to mention Super Nova as a favorite of mine, and then, I found out that it's part of the Darius series; go figure. As for being weird, yeah, just play the first few stages of Bio Metal and tell me it's not weird that they have those songs as a soundtrack. It is a genre, however, that most unashamedly defines each game by its "hook"; RPGs have been doing that for decades, but always coyly skirt the issue.

I was really surprised at how much a change in venue made a difference in my outlook; for the first time in my entire life, it feels like I have some sort of future. There's a girl where I used to work that used to say that all the time, too; there were others, but when I said, "Don't say that," I got an apology and they stopped. Of course, I'd be the only person discouraging it (well, my bisexual sister and I), because the managers are Bible-thumpers who actually fired one of our drivers for being a lesbian. They didn't actually say that, but I can read the writing on the wall; what they actually did was badger her until she lashed out and then fired her for her "attitude". That said, I don't know why they weren't honest about it; in that part of the state, it's perfectly legal to fire someone for his/her sexual orientation. Standing up to something like that doesn't make you a PC queer (or a console homo, for that matter); that'd be like calling someone a PC queer for telling someone not to use the N-word. Well, I said that to a former coworker that isn't synaesthetic, and he agreed. Did I mention that I'll remember that tune for life, because I was put on hold for 45 fucking minutes? That's roughly 180 times I heard it that day alone.

You may want to be grateful that you can't have an experience as intense as mine; occasional, seemingly random nausea aside, some of the music I've heard (like the main theme from Chapter 5 of Corpse Party) is so intense that I don't think that anyone who didn't live with this for several decades could really handle it. And then, there's Slave of God. Sweet Cosmic Body of Brahman, Slave of God. I literally (actually literally, mind you; I couldn't do much more than wander around for a few minutes) could not play the game, because between the colors, the fact that I can see algorithms when I play games, the fact that I needed those algorithms to find the fucking walls, and that evil, EVIL music, the game just broke me. I played for a few minutes, and I was disoriented and uncontrollably swaying for more than an hour afterward. My lady asked me if I realized that I was swaying, and I didn't; I was in pretty rough shape. I've never had anything fuck me up that badly before, and it's just a game.

Well, given that my copy is part of a compilation, I suppose it stands to reason that I'd not have known that. Honestly, I was never a big fan of Xevious, but I've been told that I have bizarre taste in Scrolling Shooters, because I'm not big on Lightening Force, either; I always liked its predecessor, Thunder Force 3, much better.

At my new, non-gay-bashing job, I don't really get to answer the phone that much, so I'm not put on hold anymore. I even kinda miss the one doctor's office's hold music that's a 15-second (I timed it) loop on a bad Casio that sounds like Dick Tracy dancing the Charleston in a dark alley with purple lighting. I'll be a senile old bat in a nursing home some day, and I'll still remember that song.

I totally agree; it's something that should be mechanically engaging, but not too much, lest you ruin the immersion. It's a very delicate balance that I think they did quite well.

My lady is really big into music theory and stuff - whenever she hears music, she's automatically dissecting the notes, patterns, and tons of shit that she can't even explain to me, because I'm so musically challenged - but that is one level at which she cannot compete with me; I see something in music that she cannot. Well, unless she takes some LSD, but I don't ever see that happening, because we don't even drink. I was really surprised, though, at how close they'd gotten to my special vision. Granted, they can't mimic the other sensory interactions, but that's because a TV only gives you sight and sound.

That actually does make sense with what little I know about Rez's story. I think I've played some of the RayForce games on one of the Taito Legends compilations; very interesting concept from a gameplay standpoint, but I don't remember anything about the story.

I just looked up Kandinsky's work, and I have to say that it doesn't really mimic my sensory reactions, though this one isn't entirely unlike what Smooth Jazz looks like to me: [Link] Most people hate being on hold, but I've always liked Smooth Jazz, because I like the pretty colors; they look a bit like a beach at sunset.

It's one of the few times that I will concede that gameplay isn't as important in making the game great. mind you, if the controls were outright terrible, then I'd probably hate the game, but just being passable, the game was something absolutely magnificent.
