- This backlog largely exists to keep track of games which I've ever played or I'm interested in playing, not necessarily any physical collection - my physical collection of games is comparatively tiny. As such...

- Nearly all games are listed under their original systems of release. Many games here are emulated - I try to play games physically as frequently as possible, but limited physical space and money have made emulation a necessity in many cases. Games are listed in order of precedence based on how I played them: If I've ever played them on the original console, they're listed as-is. If I've played them on another console through a re-release or port, they're listed with the way I played them as Original System. Finally, if I've only ever emulated them, they're listed with the ownership status "Other".

- A Beaten game is a game where I've seen the game's ending screen (and probably its credits). A game must have an ending screen specifically designated to be an ending screen for it to count as non-null. (Arcade game kill screens don't count, and neither do Paradox's out-of-time screens - they're identical to game over screens.)

- A Completed game is a game where I've completed every objective within the game (100%ed it). For games which track progress (eg. number of stars in Super Mario 64, Star Pieces/Badges/Recipes in Paper Mario, percentage in Donkey Kong Country), getting the maximum possible number on all of these is enough to qualify. For other games, getting the best possible equipment and major upgrades and beating the game on every mode is required. For games which don't save progress, beating the game and seeing the best ending (where there's a clearly intended best ending) is enough. Things like getting every coin, opening every chest or getting every possible item (including insignificant ones) are not required if they're not tracked.

- A Mastered game is a game where I feel my accomplishments are noteworthy enough to achieve this rank. All challenges MUST be self-imposed and MUST be beyond the scope of the game's usual parameters - anything that the game asks me to do, no matter how hard, qualifies for Completed instead. Playing the game on the hardest mode DOES NOT count by itself. Speedrun times for popular games ONLY count they're above the 50th percentile on their leaderboards. If a run falls into the bottom half of its leaderboard and its only qualification is a speedrun, mastery will be removed.

- Null is used for games that have no ending (and, if applicable, that I have no intention of ever completing), or else unbeaten games that I have no intention of ever beating. They are all annotated with the reason they have a Null status.

- Unless otherwise specified, all games are the North American releases, and use titles as they were released in North America.

- Steam is now allowed, but with a caveat: Any game that I haven't put at least *some* significant amount of time into (an hour or so) won't be listed at all. The wicked temptation of Steam sales, bundles, and gifts has made listing Steam games an absolute nightmare, and I have no intention of ever playing maybe 80% of what I own on Steam.
