I didn't really see many of those problems, or rather, I didn't see them as problems. I did a full review here [Link] , but I'll also be making specific points that you brought up as well.

I never really noticed when they repeated themselves but isn't that pretty typical with a lot of JRPG dialogue? I don't really know what else to say about that.

Yes, it was basically the same every time, but I don't think it's entirely bad. It's a group of kids that we've seen go through a lot of changes in their original sources, so it's almost like the return of the incident that they had to face, and as such, the setup of saving the idols being the same is almost like going through that again. This time, though, they're a bit more prepared to deal with it. I can totally understand and dock some points off for it being too repetitive, but honestly, if I remember, that's one of my only complaints with the game.

I wouldn't say that they didn't have any life. I actually loved just hearing them all talk to each other again, and I constantly looked forward to the moments where Doujima and Nanako appeared simply because they are my favorite characters. There are also some pretty neat lines, not to mention Kanamin is full of interesting bits of dialogue. The dialogue with the original cast, though, is definitely nowhere near the quality of the original game, nor do I believe that it's as important to the story, and I don't mind it. The story really isn't their story anyway, it's about Rise's come back to entertainment and the mystery behind the disappearing idols (of course focusing on Kanami as a character as well).

If it was silly, I think I would find myself to be a bit cheated. It's a Persona game, and that series is far from silly, therefore I think it only fits. Not to mention, it's clear that Atlus wants to capitalize off of the success that Persona 4 had, so if it were some silly storyline, it would just feel like a cash grab. Instead, the game feels very fresh, yet charming and familiar with a new coat of paint and polish.

You thought the story mode for P4 Dancing All Night was awful? I thought it was actually pretty comforting in formula and fun to see all of the characters working together again. Definitely not substantial, but a fun experience nonetheless. What didn't you like about it?

If you like fighting games, you'd like P4U. But if you're strictly playing P4U for the story or you don't like fighting games, I can't recommend P4U. My mini-review of that game mentions the story as the worst fanfic I've ever read. Surprisingly, Adachi's story (which is now paid DLC, it was free initially) was pretty good. But the main story, nope, I dunno why they even bothered. It was basically a rehash of P4A's story with more characters and 150% more cringe-worthy dialogue. So basically in a nutshell, great fighting game, terrible story for a spin-off. At least it wasn't as bad as Persona Q as a whole.

If you can still find any physical copies floating around, it's really cheap now.

If you play P4DAN for the story, you're doing it wrong.

Seriously, though, I don't know what the creators were thinking with the story. Considering Crypton and Dingo (who's now filed for bankruptcy) collaborated with Atlus on this, it might have been a factor, but don't take my word on that. I'm fine with P4DAN strictly as a music game.

Sadly, the story is way better in P4DAN than P4U's 'story' ever was. P4U's story almost makes Corpse Party: Blood Drive's story seem like Pulitzer Prize-winning material by comparison. At least for me, it was that level of bad.

I can't help but wonder what they cut out of the game due to funding. I know that the whole Atlas thing is still super shady and still not resolved, but I'd have to think they were going to do more with James' shenanigans and the whole supernatural angle. Also, it's kinda lame how they introduced Lisa and you literally only see her once. Yes, I did just watch a stream of it last night, and the guy beat it in however long the stream was, so probably 4-5-6 hours.

So out of curiosity I went to the game's page on Steam, and apparently it has "overwhelmingly positive" reviews. So it seems to me like if they wanted to get the fanbase on for a crowdfunded sequel, they easily could.

Also the original game might have been crowdfunded. I might remember reading something about that.

Point is, things do sound cautiously optimistic. Even if it'll likely take a while.

Also, if it's in the cards and they'll accept a Steam gift, I might be willing to use one of my current/future directorships for a Contraception stream, because I realllly loved it too.

I did consider it, but like all mobo games, I just don't want to take Mystic Messenger seriously and mark progress on it. It's my 'relax' game, something to play around with when I'm tired of making actual progress on my backlog.
