Herald of Bak'laag: 500+ unfinished games
Treasure Hunter: 1000+ games
Invincible: 10+ beat or complete in a row
Confused: Playing 10+ games at once
I finished the PCE port of Exile a couple of months back. It's pretty solid! I hope you enjoy your playthrough.

And this is why I am loving the Towns port/version of DS:LoH. There's no voiceovers (it is on 3.5" floppies), but the stuff that matters (SFX, animation, etc.) are all super on point. Plus, if you have a copy of DS:LoH Perfect Collection OST on CD (I do), the game includes an option to replace the in-game PCM tunes by syncing with the soundtrack disc. Ryo Yonemitsu's special arrangement of the OST is simply beautiful, and surpasses even the PCE/TGCD score by quite a bit. You just *have* to appreciate the artistry Falcom puts into their music. It might be debatable, but I don't think there have been very many dev studios before or since that really hold a candle to NFs musical work.

Backlog Beaten: August 21, 2014
Backlog Completed: September 27, 2014
Master of Unlocking: Majority of games are completed
Treasure Hunter: 1000+ games
Focus: Only playing one game
Short review: Post-game sucks; stick to the NES original.

Long review: They only amped up the difficulty on the boss of the bonus dungeon, but they really did amp it up. I did find the difficulty of the game to be higher overall, but it was a good thing up until that point; said boss was just a cheap asshole, and I had Metal Babble Armor for everyone. Now, I bought this version almost entirely for the post-game, because I was excited to play as Psaro, who is not only cool as shit, but also the only compelling villain in any Dragon Warrior game ever and certainly ahead of his time. Hell, I agree with him: humans are shitty. It's like the old saying goes - was it Nietzsche? - "When fighting monsters, one must be careful not to become one," and that's exactly what happened, right down to taking the shape of the Ruler of Evil, himself: Esturk. Postgame has you revive Rosa, which brings back his humanity with the power of love and friendship. I'm already insulted. After that, you go after Radimvice as the second final boss, which just seemed so damn unnecessary. In the end, it wasn't worth it, and I'm going to pretend it never happened, because the NES version had the better story. I think the only post-game I ever really enjoyed in Dragon Warrior was in 7, because the dungeon wasn't just bullshit cobbled together from old tilesets.
