Uh oh. In P4 you don't choose skills. It is the same as P3 with selecting the fushion and crossing your fingers. It is Devil Survivor (the DS game) where you get to pick the skills. Sorry :-(

You move around the Grid using Sphere Levels (S. lvl). You get them as you level your characters. You collect AP which gets you Sphere Levels for that character. You can activate nodes nearby where are are right now on the grid. It costs 1 S. Lvl to move forward 1 node if I remember this all correctly. I also have the strategy guide at home if you want to borrow it.

Well, each character starts in one section of the grid. Fill in that section first. You can pick any direction. Once that section is filled you can unlock further into the grid and keep picking abilities that way. But it does start you in what is useful for that character so that is helpful.
