Yea, those bolts were terrible. I had to *watch* a video on YouTube to solve that.

About Lord Of Shadows, i have low expectations, and i had enough of this generation beat-em-up craze. Bayonetta i heard is awesome, God Of War 3 too, Dante's Inferno is basically the poor man's version of GOW, and Darksiders seems to be an interesting mix between a beat em up and a zelda-like game, with more of the latter, but i think that's enough. Konami dediced to ride this wave, i don't expect this Castlevania to be nothing more than another cloned beat em up, but if they focus the game a lot on exploration and a little on battles, it could be (if they do it right) the first 3D game of the series to fly out of the mediocre/decent category, but again, i won't expect much. We'll see when it comes out. About MediEvil, i'm waiting for a burst of "wanna play ps1 games", and that's all.

Yeah, Castlevania is one of those franchises that should be in 2D forever, as in that "dimension" is excellent, Konami never did a good job translating the formula in 3D, sadly.
Ecclesia starts you off with a new order of the many created to battle Dracula, in absence of the Belmont family members, so it's a standalone game, a different story and charactes. (and a return to the gothic graphic style)
I didn't played DoS, i remember it being a follow up to Aria Of Sorrow, starring Soma Cruz as protagonist again, but i never even tried it.
So I don't know if it has connections with Portrait Of Ruin.
Anyway i say start with the GBA games, you can find a Double Pack containing Aria and Harmony, and if you wish to search the net, get yourself Circle Of Moon. As for the DS ones, you can skip Dawn and Portrait, and get yourself Ecclesia, as it's a standalone game.
My favorite? I can't choose, i need all of them. (except Harmony Of Dissonance, yes).

If you wanna play more recent Castlevania games, all i can say is do it, the newer one, Ecclesia, is also a very good entry, a change from the metroid style adopted after Symphony of the night. Worth checkin' out, for sure.
Apart Harmony Of Dissonance (i started it over three times, it's too much confusing and cryptic, one thing is to explore, one to be assholes in design a castle uselessly confusing), all games on handhelds were more or less pretty good.
Yeah, there are Lament Of Innocence and Curse Of Darkness, and yeah, they're not that loved. I tried LoI time ago, but i don't really remember if it was bad, good or simply decent, about Curse Of Darkness i don't know, never tried it.
(how is it, by the way?)
