I'd usually get out of the second room with around 20 hp, so ~35 hp should've been enough to survive?

First Room is like Wheeee!
Second Room is like run forward and not do much else
(healing between rooms)
Third room is fun, but having to redo it a few times over, it was long enough to be a bother.
Ballos was like WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!!!

Oh yeah, I've heard that the SaGa games are extremely frustrating. One friend described trying to play one of them like "Digging a tunnel through a mountain with a shovel, except that your shovel always breaks after you use it 3 times."

Yeah, hard mode seems more like a run to me. No health upgrades, no missile launcher... that sounds friggin terrible!
