One day, if the digitally-distributed goods on consoles become more diversely downloadable (here's looking at you, Microsoft and Nintendo! ...don't get complacent now, Sony), I'll have a more compelling reason to properly categorize themselves as their own things, but as it stands, they might as well be regarded as mere offshoots of the only hardware that can play them.
The only real exception here seems to be PSOne Classics, which can be played on PS3, PSP, and PS Vita as a broad category rather than the examples set by most PSN titles (which must be categorized separately on a by-the-console basis to have any real meaning), Xbox LIVE Arcade, the various Virtual Consoles, and et cetera.
I've had high hopes for these various digital implementations, but for the time being, this is the best we can do and now the burden falls upon the end user to make any reasonable sense of things on their own. And thus Backloggery's existence was made more important now than ever. (For me. You guys keep on rockin' it how you want.)
And don't get me wrong, I love all the subcategorizations offered... I just find that they'll be more specifically useful to me if I give them a slightly off-label use as opposed to how they were intended to be used.
