Did another run of Contra so I could record it. Watch me be overly cautious here: [Link]

Did a few trial runs of Super C and made it to the end of Stage 4. This one is going to take a few more attempts, methinks. Also did a few more runs of Star Soldier and made it to Stage 13, whereupon the game's difficulty goes brick wall and I lost all my remaining lives in seconds. This one may be hopeless, thanks to those hateful homing bullets, but I'll keep trying regardless...

Turns out the missing element in my Contra run was... a decent controller! The d-pad was worn out on the one I was using before, making it hard to hit diagonals and wearing out my thumb after two or three attempts. Tried an NES Advantage but that just made it hard to hit down normally!

Switched to the other one and after a few tries to get used to the new pad, made my way all the way to Energy Zone without a single death. One death to the Stage 6 boss (wasn't used to his pattern), one death in Stage 7 (a wall popped up that I forgot about), and two deaths in Stage 8 (to the spiders near the end, which I wasn't used to avoiding yet), and I could consider myself a hero! Had 7 lives in stock when it threw me back to Stage 1.

There's one of my life's goals completed!

Still trying to do Contra. Made it to the boss of stage 6 and lost my last life seeing if you could destroy his ground projectiles (hint: you can't). Gonna grab some other controllers this weekend to see if I have one that doesn't make my thumb hurt after 20 minutes...
