Far too short of a game, but due to that, replaying is a breeze. I like soloing the game as Arc, I usually finish in like 5 hours with a small detour to get the Mirror in the Forbidden Ruins. Story feels very... Striking. It's very peculiar somehow, despite being your average "chosen one saves the world" quest, maybe it's in its simplicity. Gameplay is very brisk and lightweight, battles usually taking only a few minutes. Pixel art is also stunning but the CG cutscenes are rather... Subpar.

Okay, I'm gonna be honest and say that this game feels mad incomplete? You can only get 7 of the 10 Fatestones, the battle, weapon level and positioning systems feel incredibly poorly implemented, map design and enemy placement leaves a lot to be desired, and the Event Rank internal clock feels at odds with a comfortable playthrough, even for SaGa. I can enjoy it due to nostalgia and my own weird quirks, but it's absolutely only for SaGa faithfuls. Stick to Minstrel Song.

The big masterpiece that the NES' American launch lead up to. Today, the physics are very jank compared to Super Mario World's much cleaner ones, for instance, but the game is still solid and a good recommendation for anyone trying to get into games. Difficulty is demanding, however, so it's not ideal.

A superb mech strategy game, customization isn't the deepest but it's not bad, the story is pretty enthralling, and the challenge of the maps is pretty adequate. Honestly there isn't much I can critique about it so far.

Standard DraQue clone with good ol' SMT rules. But it squanders its SMT identity by simplifying convos to a fault and making fusion worthless. It randomly selects from one of 3? dialogue trees and each tribe has a different way of recruiting that's shared between all demons in it. But the randomizing makes it much harder to memorize the dialogue choices. As for fusions? They just make demons of similar level and you always get higher level demons. Outside of tribe 7 demons, there's no real use!

This game is overly ambitious but it's held back by its sheer buggyness and jank. Thankfully that hasn't stopped me from loving it. If I had to complain about one thing is that its difficulty is unbalanced? You can be one second away from getting owned by an enemy if you don't pay attention, which valid, but a lot of the bosses in the game are also trivialized by the Zio and Bufu lines of spells, which is awkward. But you're effectively stunlocking gods for fun, so it rules.

One of the grandfathers of dungeon crawlers, featuring punishing high difficulty and confusing maps. Honestly not a bad game, not too hard to get into the swing of things, either. The SNES port also makes a good effort to make the game look more stunning. Just get ready to see your adventurers die a lot.

okay so this one is fucking weird. Bandai decided to commission Bec to make a V-Pet/open world RPG hybrid. And it sort of works? But you need a high amount of accurate guides to make sense of the whole thing. I personally /really/ enjoy this game, it's outright one of my favorites and I'd like to 100% it someday, 100 prosp., all Digivolutions. But it'll take quite a bit of time. Approach with caution!

Average RPG for the PlayStation, apparently this was one of the first to get localized, but somehow Arc the Lad I&II didn't? I can deal with this game, but it feels very lacking. Directions are unclear, lots of grinding necessary, dungeons can be a pain with the high encounter rate... At least some of the enemies are fucking studs

A beautiful game. The plot feels stronger overall, the systems slightly more refined. The partners also feel more likeable and the Guardian Beasts are super adorable. There's also the option of a male partner ending for male protags, in the form of Nesty. My biggest complaint is how the uneven ground in some arenas can make it so the only recourse you have to winning a battle is to grind, but that's a trend in Summon Night in general.

A pretty good port of LoH1 to the Mega Drive. Really the only issue is that they removed Aron's "Get to Lv8" dialogue before you head to the Belga Mining Site which makes it less obvious that you have to grind that much to be able to set foot in it.

A strange game. Graphics are near-perfect with a few flaws and inconsistencies in artstyle here and there, Music is superb, Gameplay isn't bad, but there's a lot of little things that pile up and make this experience a bit lesser. It didn't affect me the second time but... From the jank dungeons that are easy to get lost in, to the second half of the plotline being shunted into one single dungeon, to the many performance issues, it's a game with many warts... But it's comfort food for me.

A much needed glow-up to Romancing SaGa 1, the sparking system replaces the abilities being tied to weapon levels, attack type proficiency replaces the each weapon having a level, the magic system has been deepened with the cruft being removed... The changes are too many. The difficulty is still quite high, but the game /can/ be learned, and it's much more linear than the first (fourth) game so...

A run of the mill strategy RPG. Main gimmick of this one is that, the main strategy battles occur in the overworld. The overworld is a giant SRPG map, which is neat, but bogs down inter-town movement by a lot. Outside of that and... Its ending, it's relatively inoffensive, probably to a fault.

A serviceable Kirby game, instead of a traditional platformer, you're controlling Kirby (who is now a ball) with trails drawn by your stylus. It's deceptively challenging, but if you're playing on an actual DS or 2/3DS, the difficulty is much more manageable, than on emulator with say, a Wacom or Huion.

A classic. Everyone and their mother won't shut up about this game so I'll try to keep it simple. It may be a cryptic game, and without Nintendo Power or the mini-guide the manual gave you or what have you it wouldn't be as accessible, but something about it just feels entrancing. There's just something about having a world where you can get lost in and explore its secrets. No other Zelda game would really replicate this until Breath of the Wild, which is sad.

it's the meme game,,,, Imagine Ys but they decided to add non-bump combat and the idea for that was to give you a sword attack that had a roughly 16x16 hitbox. While your character and the enemies are like 32x32. That's this game compared to the X68k original in a nutshell; Kemco "Quality". Expect a lot of grinding and cheesing as a result.

Severely underrated SRPG. Longer, grimmer and more engaging, this sequel focuses on showcasing G-Craft's original ambitions for Arc 1. The new cast is very much likeable and have nice interactions with the original cast, Chongara taking a backseat sadly (or not considering how WD wrote him). The Hunter Guild sidequests also provide a lot of extra bang for your buck and are a welcome addition. There is some WD jank so heads up.

A pretty good Lufia 2-esque RPG released early in the PSX's life, my one complaint? It's /too/ traditional. Outside of that the graphics are pretty good, music is an all timer, bless Michiko Naruke, and while I said it's traditional, the gameplay isn't bad, most of the game doesn't require grinding, and the tool system is a neat spice to add to the mix. Give it a shot if you need a beginner friendly console RPG.

A very approachable Tactics Ogre esque SRPG. The plot is focused more on VN-esque character interactions than the moral choices and all, but the charas are fleshed out enough to make it worthwhile. A lot of the issues with it would be fixed with later installments, so it feels barebones. Grinding through the game to get past difficulty spikes is kosher, but leveling up in a balanced way with the EXP you get from story battles is also a valid strategy, which SN3 onwards would capitalize on.

A troubled game, not only is its script obnoxious at points with its edgy humor, but its dating sim elements are incredibly barebones and repetitive. The combat is also average, not exactly broken, but very awkward. My biggest problem is how dating and forging's over reliance on high MP causes you to constantly grind for it if you're trying to have a full spell list with everyone. Which is a problem as you constantly gain levels by accident, needing to grind more.

The MVP of the SNES entries and a fan favorite. If people don't love VII, it's usually VI or IX that they prefer. In my case, it was IX. But VI has a lot to love, its plot these days is very contrived, with stuff just happening with minimal buildup or context, but for its age it was very good, only rivaled by games like Phantasy Star IV, Legend of Heroes III and Dragon Quest V. For a lot of people, especially in the west, it was their first time with story taking a front seat in a game.

Pokémon makes its entry into the world. A very jank game, far outclassed by its sequels. AI and movepools are rudimentary, and Psychic is completely broken in terms of strength, making going back to this game a challenge for a lot.
