I have one Japanese game that I can navigate really easily, but it's extremely straightforward. So I'm thinking that as long as it's not too complicated I'll be okay. xD

Both games are magnificent, really. I love them soooo much! *_____*
But yeah, P3 has a much better plot.xD;
P4s is good too, but P3s is really epic.
P4 has a bit more personable characters, however P3 has amazing characters as well. And P4 is a bit more smooth with a few small added tweaks.
But yeah, I'd say start with P3. It'll blow you away. :D
Though you don't have to play P3 to understand P4, there are a few P3 references throughout the game. So yeah, I'd definitely recommend going with P3 first. xD
Plus it'll make you appreciate P4's tweaks much more. :D
