Hey, I finished Sakura Wars, so now I can talk about it!
I believe me thoughts are very similar to what you wrote in your notes for the game. It was a nice experience overall. I’m not very familiar with the series so I cannot compare it to its predecessors.

Thanks for the add back! I added you after seeing you're a fan of D2 and Arto Lindsay. I also liked your comments on the games you've played.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. I know I give the game a lot more praise than it really deserves, as I'll admit the gameplay is somewhat limited, but the graphics, music, and characters really do a lot for me. I have a sentimental connection to it, I guess. I played it an awful lot when writing a guide for it during a particularly difficult couple of years of my life, and at the time, that was my only escape from the real world.

The odd thing about the translation of Wild ARMs 3 was that it was outsourced to Squaresoft. The first two games (and to some extent Alter Code F's localization by Agetec) were pretty badly translated, but they have a charm to them in a weird way (the latter games were done by XSeed, but the series had changed so much by Wild Arms 4 that its almost a different series).

The weird thing is that the games all feel somewhat consistent in terms of tone (though they get sillier as the series progresses), but that's more a reflection of the writing of the series than the localization, I guess. It's kind of like how the Mother 3 translation feels like a natural extension of the Earthbound translation partially because deep down the writing is very similar.

I do agree its a bit dry though. That, and they butchered a few Guardian names (It's Aru Sulato, not Alslate!). I'll contest that Legaia 2 is probably a better game, but its less appealing visually and musically.

Should I play Shenmue first? I've heard Yakuza is very much a spiritual successor.
