Yup, I'm back! For a while, I was just playing either Heroes of the Storm, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe or A Robot Named Fight (brilliant metroidvania modeled after Super Metroid). The first two didn't really warranty updating my BL, while the latter did warrant some updates, but it took me something like 40 in-game hours to do just one of the final three achievements!

ARNF is a roguelite for Steam and Switch. You're a robot with an arm cannon not unlike Samus's and are fighting mutated meat creatures that are trying to destroy robotkind. Each map is different and progression is based on the items you pick up (high jump, missiles, a 'kind of morph ball of sorts', etc). In most runs, you'll unlock items and areas that expand the game's variables, so there's plenty to do. One run will not cut it (nor will you be able to beat the game in your first run, ha ha).

It's developed by just one guy (and his wife to help with PR) and he's got a Patreon to help pay the bills and in exchange for $5 a month (might sound steep at first), he releases new content well, WELL before the public ever sees it (months) because he has to squash all the bugs that arise and patrons get to offer feedback of course. So, even though we get buggy content, it's fun af all the same because all of us patrons share the same damn passion for Super Metroid. We've been directly responsible for several bosses, the newest unreleased area, several items. Meanwhile, the content is constantly coming so it's constantly feeling like a new game. Only stipulation is that it's only on Steam. Switch can't support this kind of public/private update model, sadly.

Anyway, as I said the game takes after SM, which is one of my top 3 games all time. The physics in SM (and currently public ARNF) are arguably dated and that's reflected in reviews on Steam. Matt (the dev) saw that and made the decision to improve, but it's not released publicly yet. I say this because if you're interested in the game, he's planning the next update soon. It's also 50% off right now.

............. I was not planning on trying to sell you on ARNF when I started this. Honestly! This just goes to show you how much I love the game, ha ha. Anyway, I hope you're enjoying FF IX and that you get around to beating it. That is another masterpiece, unlike (imo...) FF VII. Very over-rated game, it's middle of the pack as far as FF's go. VI, IX and IV (DS remake in particular) are my top 3.

57 characters remaining, can't type much except... Enjoy!

If it helps, the PC version of the Lost Vikings is a free download from Blizzard nowadays, and it worked out of the box on my Windows 7 without the need for any hoop jumping. Whether I finally beat it remains to be seen, it gets hard in a hurry. I think I'm at best halfway.

Rune Factory 4 is going I am probably missing things and doing other things in a non-optimal manner, but I like to think this is the kind of game where that doesn't matter. Just playing and seeing how it goes. Romance is not a factor for me yet, though there is one girl I've given chocolate to not once but twice already!

The Keep is parked for an indeterminate amount of time. I've conceded that I just don't know how to progress on floor 9, the problem is there is very little information online, and I was not able to find an answer (there are people who have beaten this, but they haven't shared that detail). I put the question out on GameFAQs and am now just waiting to see if anything comes from that.

Etrian Odyssey Nexus remains on my wishlist in the meantime, I can avoid dropping the $40 until I am ready for it. Forgetting the Keep for a moment, I have three other titles after Rune Factory 4 still (Bravely Second, Mario & Luigi: Paper Jam and Persona Q), so I'm not in a big rush. By the time I am ready for Nexus, it may already be on holiday sale. Do let me know how it goes for you, though! From the sounds of it, the one floor dungeons you've had may just have been warmup, but I think dungeons the equivalent of one stratum in the previous games may be the norm.

As for the size of my Now Playing, Shining in the Darkness got there as soon as I learned about the Android version. This game and I have a long history, the replay was necessary. It aside, two or three at time *feels* right to me - if I manage to keep it to that, we'll see, my history is not so promising though

Haha. While they're certainly good at taking care of things, they actually didn't in this case. I just haven't updated the status of "Sims 4" because well I wasn't really sure what to update there.
The game is still taking up way too much of my time.
"Sims 3" was my personal favorite in the series but yeah the series certainly isn't for everyone. "Sims 4" is downscaled quite a bit from "Sims 3" so maybe it wouldn't feel too much like that one did.

Personally I really liked both "The Wolf Among Us" and the "Batman" games quite a bit. Since you played their "Walkign Dead" series games you know the style and know what to expect from these games and in my personal opinion both TWAU and the "Batman" games actually do a better job at it. The games with the Bat have the same thing the "Walking Dead" games did in that some of the decisions you make in the first game carry over into the second one. From what I know by now they're quite a different take on a lot of characters from the Batman universe that usual but a very well done and engaging one to me.
I didn't know what to expect of TWAU at all before I played it. I really liked the art in it and was surprised how well this whole putting fairy-take characters into the modern day world worked. Really enjoyed it a lot and apparently it's also a fan favorite among Telltale games.
(You'll also get to hear Lee's voice actor again in each of the three games)

I actually meant to leave a comment on your page yesterday myself, since I feel like this is the first time I've seen you not exactly fully thrilled with an EO game. Looks like there's some issues with this entry in the series.
I also wanted to give you a big for FFIX. It's one of my personal favorites in the series. Didn't even know it was ported to the switch. You should give playing through it again some serious consideration if you ask me.

I've been pretty good, thanks! And that's not a problem, since I tend to be really slow, too.

Revelations was really interesting; I'm already liking it more than RE5 and 6! Regarding the episodic format: I think it makes sense, considering this was originally intended for the 3DS. I kind of like the bite-sized mission structure it's got going on, but it does break a bit of the horror. I kept hearing about basically half the game not being focused on Jill, and that has me a little worried. I already got a taste of that with the first Chris mission, and I'm not sure how I feel about it yet.

Ooh, I don't think I've come across anything akin to Nemesis, but I'll be looking forward to what that's all about. REmake 2's been occupying most of my game time, so I haven't been able to get back to it. Hope I can fix that soon, but with my current lineup and DMC5 coming out, I'm not so sure, haha.

Hoping to clear The Keep in the last few days that remain of January. Etrian Odyssey Nexus I will of course get, but maybe not straight away with 4 games in the 3DS backlog to begin with. Puzzle Quest is a side distraction but I'm getting far enough in that it's going to fall soon enough. Just like me to be playing 6 games at once of which 4 have already been beaten. :P

Right?
Me: "It's a new year. Time to get back on that whole shrinking the backlog thing!"
The Sims jumping me: "Oh I don't think so."

Doesn't help that I still have Sims 3 installed as well...
Thanks though. I think I will need those good luck wishes.
Bak'laag needs food...
