Well, I'm not going to recommend anything as obvious as a Final Fantasy, because I'm sure you know all about them already, but I do see that you liked Chrono Cross better than Chrono Trigger, so our tastes might be similar. To get you started, I'll give you some of my favorite, at least somewhat obscure SNES RPGs:
Live-A-Live (my favorite game of all time)
Lufia 2: Rise of the Sinestrals (avoid the DS remake)
Mystic Ark
Rudra no Hihou
Shin Megami Tensei 2
Also, if you're looking for something on the weirder side, I'd recommend OFF, which is a game made in RPG Maker that you can download for free. It has the same basic battle system as Final Fantasy 6, and it's quite an experience. The battles don't get any harder as the game gets on, but instead, the increase in challenge comes from figuring out just what's going on. If you want something even weirder, there's another RPG Maker game I can recommend called Space Funeral, which has a sequel called Earth Birth. Earth Birth was made by a different person, but the creator of the original liked it so much that he officially declared it to be canon. I have a few others, but I haven't actually played them, so I don't know how they are.
Well, my age isn't something with which I part very readily, but let us say that my twenties have long since come and gone. I did go through a phase like that many years ago, because video games weren't "cool" yet, so I just stopped playing for quite a few years. Right after that, I met my significant other, so I was spending all of my time with her, and didn't have time for video games. We've been living together a long time by now, and she's into them, too, so we both play. I do feel a little overwhelmed right now, though, because I'm getting back into PC games, and the last time I'd purchased a new one before about 2 years ago was... I don't know... Duke Nukem 3D? Blood, maybe? I have about a quarter-century of PC games to catch up on. Luckily, there aren't that many new games that interest me in the slightest, so at least I have time to catch up.
