"How do you decide what to play from your backlog?"
Sometimes i'll play the oldest game series / standalone title and other times when i think about playing x game too much, that is a good idea to play it. Being organised helps a ton too.

If they are retro games, i look to the best console port for the game if you have the console and if you don't have the console or retro game, just emulate it and plug in the original controller into your PC with an adapter so zero lag.

Most my "retro" consoles are composite because i only have a CRT 240p 16 inch screen that only takes composite and a flat screen for everything else.

Emulation is only going to get better as history has shown us.
Getting a good CRT is almost impossible as well, not to mention cables and retro games being pretty expensive too.

My most optimal setup currently is just my gamecube and wii as i have component cable for it long ago which i use on my flat screen sony bravia.

So you can say i'm pretty fussy with attempting to get the best wherever attainable.
If one is struggling with money, emulation is king as you can save tens of thousands of dollars lol.

I just play old stuff on a whim and play on original consoles.

Honestly, it's difficult for me to choose what to play. I usually play whatever fits the mood, which often is always random for me, lol. Though emulator is always quicker, finding the "sources" is difficult due to the possibility of having unseen malware infect your computer.

WHile buying the original cartridges is a bit more expensive (the older the system), it's a safer route and you're supporting the game creators. But for the hardware, third party hardware would be an alternative. Hyperkin would be the go-to in my opinion since I have a RetroN 3 console for NES, Famicom, SNES, Super Famicom, Sega Genesis and Mega Drive, and then a RetroN 5 for all of the above plus Cameboy/Color and Game Boy Advance.

Dees is a question I always mull over, but I'm usually told "play whatcha feel." Oh yeah, like it's that easy when you have so much to choose from!

Question for everyone - How do you decide what to play from your backlog? I want to play some retro games I’ve never experienced (and actually complete them!) but have no idea where to start! Or wether to play them on original hardware, on PC emulator, or one of the new handheld retro consoles, or a bit of all three... What do you use?

True true, they do enjoy putting out remakes after remakes after remakes after all.
My favourite Resident Evil game is #5, it was initally going to be just Chris but that didn't fill the divisity quota so that's where the whole QTE events came in, which many fans we not pleased with.
Also According to publisher Capcom, Resident Evil 5 has sold 7.4 million copies worldwide since its initial release (as of December 31, 2018), making it the second most successful game in terms of sales in the entire history of the company. Was also my first entry to the series (gold edition) so there you go, don't know if they'll remake/remaster it but it looks like a trend that doesn't look like its ending anytime soon.

So, how do you like that RE4 Remake getting mircotransations?

Do you play with Arcade sticks for your retro games? I don't see any videos about the controllers, just the SF30 Pro one you made 4 years ago.

Personally i'm looking to get an arcade stick but there's many options to choose from. Ideally one that just plays on all consoles with the korean stick.

Perhaps you can make a video on controllers and arcade sticks, just a mere suggestion.

Not sure if you know this but if you beat 10 games in a row without adding new games, you can earn the invincible award on backloggery.
But i suspect that would be difficult for you constantly increasing your backloggery.

And now it's been ported about a dozen times by this point.

My second son is coming in March so there will be a scramble to beat games before then and backlog clearance will be the name of the game after that... I just beat Dark Souls 2 (the credits are still rolling). So that is a big one ticked off! What a game...

My goal is to have a "no-buy" year and do more of the actual playing. I have already sold half of my former collection and probably continue selling the games that I don't see myself playing again in the future. Maybe... I'll allow myself to get a few missing 3DS games but not much else. Have a good year of gaming and collecting in 2023!

I am not sure, yet. Right now, I'm going through a vigorous process of ensuring that all under the PC list under the Japanese region are properly tagged in the comments tab with (Doujin Game) for them games made by fans of anime and manga, ect., (Visual Novel) which is obvious, and whether or not the title is adult-rated or not - if they do contain adult content it'll have the 18禁 tag.

But it's also a process of cleaning up because some titles I have I may not have no more in the physical sense so I'm deleting them if I can't legally find it online anymore (there have been a couple that I can't find 'em no more) or just marking it as "formerly owned".

EDIT: Not many people would like it if they find someone on my backlog, google it up, and find out it's an 18+ game/visual novel. So I am being safe and also cautious by ensuring in the comments (if ppl check em) that if one who looks something up on my backlog for themself see that 18禁, they will have an understanding that this is an adult game for mature adults only.

2023 collecting goals? Well I really hope to expand on my DS collection, but I'm gonna be slowing my purchasing to try and save for a PS5 this summer so that collection will start to grow too! I'm also getting into amiibo figures so I guess I have plenty of places to put my money

I saw your shouted comment on Kanto's Backlog. "Hey everyone! What game collecting goals do you have in 2023?"

For me, it's more or less try to stop collectign more games and visual novels and try to get the unfinished number on my Backlog to a lower number since over the months it boosted back from 200 to close to 500.

(Then again, half of them are free games I find or visual novels and doujin games my online friends give me copies of for me to check out and play through).
