This is a weird case for 'Loggery tracking. Will mark as Beat (for 6/04) by the end of the year so it doesn't count against my score, since the new cups are coming in waves between now and the end of next year. | Like the main game, I'm skipping the 200cc staff ghosts because they demand borderline speedrunner skills. Only bragging rights are up for grabs anyway.

It's a shame that AVGN didn't approve of the PS1 soundtrack in his recent video, simply because it's not the original Doom music. I appreciate the PS1 soundtrack just as much as the original for giving the game a whole different tone. I didn't know that about Aubrey Hodges, though; that's interesting!

Derek definitely did a better job covering PlayStation Doom, haha. One of these days, I want to try out one of those Doom PlayStation TC mods. I still have my PS1 disc, and was playing that on my PS2 pretty recently.

"DANNY WON, Hey!" Lol. I didn't know about that, but now I'll never unhear it.

That sucks. I'm sure it was worth the hassle by now, at least, now that you're all settled in. Hope your brother's all right, though. I've been through Covid, and it's rough.

SCP-087-B is brutal! I don't know if I'll ever finish it. The slightest thing can go wrong. I think the trick is simply to not look at it, for the most part. I spend most of the game looking down as I move forward. Whenever a path splits up, I slow down a lot just to make sure I don't fall in a gap. But yeah, that game's an evil bastard. Containment Breach was kinda hard to get running, but after dicking around with it I think I got it working. Too bad there's not a decent modern port of it. I don't really like that remaster they got up on Steam.

Exactly! I played a little Mortal Kombat as a kid, but that was only against my friend at his place on the PlayStation port. I never played MK2's arcade mode until now, and I did not expect that kind of AI at all. It's just rigged against you. I can't imagine what the final boss MK2 is like. MK3 seems a little more manageable? I still haven't played enough of it, so we'll see. It's kind of a shame, 'cause I've always heard about how much fun these games are. I didn't expect them to be so punishing lol.

Hope you have a good holiday season!

Me trying to help with too much Picross would be something like sending The Human Torch to put a fire at a gas station. I actually think I've played something similar, though I couldn't totally say where. Maybe in Bob PicRoss? [Link]

Same; I remember seeing it in Nintendo Power, but I also remember not really understanding what it was. It wasn't until I was playing through the SNES's entire library that I got a grasp on the concept, and was absolutely shocked to find something more addicting than Shanghai. The SNES picross game remains the only thing I've ever played on my lady's Switch, aside from New Year's Eve, when we had a dorky pajama party where we played Castle Crashers into the wee hours of the morning. Still no actual Switch games.

Ah, the old hurry up and wait. Yes, I think that would've driven me up the walls. Maybe even literally, like scaling the side of the building with a couch in the other arm. Depending what I was carrying, I might've gone up the stairs, though; when I was on delivery runs, I used to use the stairs whenever I could, because my blood pressure is so low that elevators make me dizzy, since it's like standing up too quickly. Of course, the one building where that wasn't possible had an elevator like the one on the outer wall in Symphony of the Night that has fucking ROCKETS underneath it; felt like you'd get up 5 floors in a split second, and I never did get the hang of remaining vertical when it SLAMMED into place at the intended destination. In any case, glad you got it all done; relax and enjoy the new place!

Some do; I usually do just in case they either have some lovely smartass remark or teach me how the person wants to be addressed. Grammarly reminds us (by bombarding our YouTube videos) that tone is important, and if you've comment-stalked me enough, you'll start to wonder if I have fucking DID, because I pay such attention to it.

Thanks! 'nother breath of fresh air after a long string of duds. Can't tell if I've been unlucky or just restless. But yes, intensity is required when speaking the name of BROFORCE and its spinoff/somehow official movie tie-in THE EXPENDABROS. It had its tough and occasionally bullshit moments, but everything was bite-sized enough that frustrating never turned to infuriating.

[Link] That sounds less like Kirby and more like a Konami game, though it does predate Kirby. I dunno. What do you think, Master Macc?

"Nobody would think twice if you skipped Zelda II"

The thing about Zelda II is that it's more popular with NES players than Zelda fans. If most other people's first Zelda happens to be Ocarina of Time or beyond, chances are Zelda II wouldn't particularly fly with them. I saw somebody refer to that Zelda Game & Watch thing as "disappointing." Not sure why, you get everything as advertised plus foreign versions. What were they expecting? So yeah, Zelda II is better enjoyed by NES fans than Zelda fans, I say.

Thanks! I don't remember saving the picture but I found it on my desktop. It was too perfect not to use!

Yeah for sure. I don't remember if I saw all of the events or not. I saw damn near all of them, though. I'll have to check the wiki again. Only thing that I remember knowing about, but never found, was mini hell. Oh yeah speaking of RNG, I remember the first time Mado got a kink in her neck it scared the shit out of me, lol.

Nobody would think twice if you skipped Zelda II lol. It's an interesting game looking back on it, but unreasonable for the casual fan to finish. Never got into Mega Man outside of the first one. And about five minutes of X1. I gave up at the final boss of Mega Man 1.
Oh that's really cool! Super Metroid is such a wonderful game. And lol I feel you about spoilers. I knew some who just could not shut up about spoilers so the twist of MGSV was given away before I even played it lol.

Don't do it I swear! It's not as bad as it sounds! >_>

Yeah, it makes the recurring gray man character a little more concerning. I still haven't played much of it, I want to finish it at some point... assuming that is possible.

Oh that's really interesting. I really like the idea of NASU being a part of the dream world, so that would have been really cool. It looks like there is some unique set pieces there too? I dont remember those maoi looking guys. Honestly, with a game like this, I think that speculation is a part of the experience, so you're good lol! The game has so many wierd things that anything is possible. Like all the UFOs and other characters you can pull from off screen, using the Cat effect.

Oh, well that's good! Hopefully, you can get into it! I've been a big fan ever since I was younger, so it's interesting to see someone getting into it, for the first time!

I am really enjoying Seanan so far! Please, dont take that out of context. It's so... bizzare, but weirdly engaging. Like, I really want to see everything it can do, for myself. I almost forgot about them for a while, and so when I returned, the tank was all murky and cold. But thankfully, my freaky fish kids didn't die! I have eight gillman right now, but they cant talk yet.

Yeah, finally got moving a little quicker on my backlog! With any luck, I'll keep up this momentum, but right now, the stuff I'm playing on Laundry Day is moving a lot more quickly. I'm pretty into The Signal from Tolva right now, because of its intriguing scenery that's right out of my childhood nightmares; still enjoying my Ysland adventure, too. Hope you're enjoying what's on your plate right now, but I see Picross and assume that to be the case; fucking LOVE Picross. I am curious, though: what is Micross? My brain's jumping right to Anodyne 2 and its picoscale areas.

I did actually try one of those: it was F1... 2015, maybe? It was a freebie on Steam, and... I couldn't even figure out how the hell to start the car. That was also back when I left the house more than once I week, so I wasn't even out of practice with driving. Kind of a weird coincident that it's a Codemasters game, and you've got all those eggs in your banner, though I don't think Dizzy was a playable character in that one.

I haven't been able to find one, but I really only searched RHDN. Someday, I'm going to get to my hoard of PSX games, and by then, maybe I'll have been emboldened enough to give it another shot. Could also be that I'll have found a translation patch by then, too. The idea is really starting to tempt me. I've been finding a ton of interesting PSX games that I've never played, many I've never even heard of before; Iblard and - I shit you not - Swagman really have my interest at the moment.

I hope the move went well; I would've offered my services as a freakishly strong old woman [Link] but I live out where trains to Deimos don't run... I wound up having to do my Wilderness Reclamation Robot thing, anyway, because a huge tree fell over in our yard, and I was left to my own devices to move it out of the way.

I'm not entirely sure if Yume Nikki was influenced by it or not, but it certainly is easy to draw many comparisons too it! The game is not shy about hiding it's Ghibli and Earthbound influences, so I don't think it would be shy about LSD either. My major distinction between the two games is that LSD was based on a real person's dream diary, so it's a little more spontaneous, where Yume Nikki is a lot more introspective.

I mean, fair enough. It might not be the worst thing if you can manage it! Because after that point, you have the best of the series to look forward too! Plus you can get all the little references, that most of us didn't get, our first time playing the Solid games!

Hey, I respect the hussle with Zelda! The original one was hard for me to get into at first, growing up with Ocarina of Time, and the GameCube Zeldas. But once I had a push in the right direction, by watching a let's play of it, I really started to appreciate it a lot more! I would probably rank it pretty high in my favorite Zelda's honestly.

Yeah, for sure. There has been no game that has resonated with me on such a level with purely its visuals and music. I think LSD dream emulator came before it, and its very similar, in some ways, but fails to capture the same feeling imo.

Metal Gear 2 was not bad for what it was! It was really cool to see how the ideas started, that would eventually manifest in MGS1. I did have a few problems with backtracking, and the old school anti piracy measures forcing me to look things up (even though I have an official copy), so I wouldn't reccomend the MSX games as a starting point. But still worth playing after the solid series just as an appreciation sort of thing.

And yeah the Smash bros renditions are bangers!

Hey, thanks for reading my post about it! ^^ Uninvited (on the NES at least) is definitely a game that'll slot into your schedule nicely if you've only got a couple of hours to kill. I'd put it at 4 hours at the absolute max, but you're more likely to clock in at 2-3. As long as you save often and never pick up the ruby, you'll have a great time.

Haha, I have NO idea what the thought process behind the NES art is. My best guess is that they were going for a Tales from the Crypt sorta vibe to reel in easilly scared kids? The JP boxart does a way better job of making it look actually scary though, gotta admit...but regardless of what you end up picking up for the spooky season, I hope you end up having a good one!

That really was some crazy shit; I couldn't believe what I was seeing!

I don't know how I used to race as well as I did back in the day; I can't play the genre for shit anymore. I tried getting back into F-Zero X not that long ago, and all I did was slide all the hell over the place; it was a disaster. Battle & Chase is a game I really want to love, but I just can't hack it. I might've tried the emulation thing, but I don't think it's fan translated, and I didn't want to deal with trudging through an alphabet I can't even read, much less the language.

I think that's it: Mega Man X Corrupted; what I've seen of it looks SUPER impressive, but aside from the soundtrack, I think the entire project is being made by a single person, which would explain why it's taking so long to finish. The soundtrack is great, too, from what I remember.

I've actually written a top 10 list like that, and of course, the top slot went to Heart of Enker from Mega Man 10 because it was fucking METAL. I also kinda do that in my head when I'm really diving into a soundtrack: I have a 6-member band in my head playing what instruments they're supposed to be; I'm usually on the drums, because that's what helps me focus on really digesting the music the most. I don't know why, but I never really associated Mega Man X with rock until the Terminal Montage music, where he just STOPS IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STAGE to have an electric guitar duel with Spark Mandrill. At this point, I've played it so much that my weird (as usual) impressions are pretty cemented, too.

I did try Yume 2kki (a joke that it took me an embarrassingly long time to get), but couldn't get it to run; I'm going to give it another shot someday, but this is the kind of thing you don't play until your plate is clear, so you have no temptation to rush through it; just soak it all in... Of the ones I've played, Yume Nikki 3D is probably my favorite, and if you count it, Ib is very good. Houchou Shoujou Gensoukyoku is a blast, until you get to postgame, and then there's an absolute bullshit boss I didn't have the patience to conquer, but the soundtrack is excellent. As for Dream Diary, I thought it was really neat as something that took the world of Yume Nikki and added more gameplay to it, but there are a few "interpretations" that had me at full volume; mild-to-moderate trigger warning on that one, and that shit just doesn't belong in Yume Nikki, which is why I also call bullshit on Kikiyama's involvement.

Hell yes, Yume Nikki; that might be one of the most legitimately beautiful things I've ever seen in my life, within a game or not: take visuals not dissimilar to Panic! on the SEGA CD and make it something you can explore. There's a fangame called Yume Nikki 3D that does an excellent job recreating the atmosphere; it is a bit short, but it has some wonderful areas, both new and old.

Hey, no worries at all. The chill pace of this site is so nice, especially compared to blink-and-you'll-miss-it social media.

I think the level of dedication of going out and getting a 64DD is pretty rad, to be honest. Good on you! It seems like there's a surprisingly active community working around not only getting the Dreamcast's online functionality back up and running, but also streamlining it to make it nice and easy to use, so you never know what might happen in the aftermarket online department. Maybe some Japanese diehard fanatics of the DD are tinkering away on such a thing right now...congrats on the successful MMX run, too; those games are no joke, so that's crazy impressive.

And hey, thanks! Valis was definitely hard in more than a few spots spots, but I ended up loving it. There's just something about that early 90's anime cheese that gets my dopamine spiking, haha. 100% agreed that the soundtrack SLAPS. What in the world were they thinking with that cheat code, though?! Not gonna lie, I'm tempted to try it...busting my fingers'll be worth it for that sweet, sweet debug mode. You're a lucky duck for getting to have some one-on-one time with one AND it didn't crap itself the whole time! I wish TG-CD wasn't so wildly expensive to collect for, because there's some great stuff on there. Great, badly dubbed stuff at that! That's my favourite kind of stuff!

P.S. love the avatar change. UBOAAA!

I'd kinda figured it had something to do with RAM values, but it's weird that it's built in such an unstable way that you can do that. Of course, you can do that in Super Mario Land 2, also, so I guess not entirely unexpected.

Well good, because using semicolons isn't hard; I saw a party gorilla do it once.

Oh, I remember that difficulty increase; that's why I got to about Shadow Man on the second loop, before noping the fuck out of the whole thing. Doesn't help that it really just isn't my genre. Damn... is this also one of those games where it's one and done, so one fuck-up and you've just lost your chance on top of it all? In any case, it sounds like I dodged not so much a bullet as a hail of gunfire with that one...

OH FUCK DOMINIC NINMARK! He did the soundtrack to... the fuck was it called... Mega Man X Corrupted or something? Some fangame that's in perpetual development. My sister was super into that for a while, and I remember listening to it quite a bit, too. But yes, I know that mine is not a popular opinion; I just feel that almost all of the future X games had better soundtracks. I will have to give it that it has a unique sound, though; stuck between the early stringy soundtracks - such as Super Ghouls & Ghosts, Magical Quest, and Breath of Fire - and what I call the AW! era of crunchy rock with those weird... are they vocals? - such as X2, X3, and Breath of Fire 2 - it really doesn't sound like anything else out there. It sure as hell ain't the techno stuff that Classic did so well. The grittier never really occurred to me, honestly, but it was the '90s, and everything was like that, so maybe that was it; the only time in that era that anything really struck me as such was Final Fantasy 6, because it was so damn jarring, and I think that's a big part of why I very rarely find myself wanting to return to it.

I'm not sure I've ever seen things quite like that before; we never had things like that out here. Pretty interesting, though, and I never would've guessed that SEGA had been making things that long ago. I did just hear the other day that they've been around since the '60s (1960, I think), so that puts things into context; I would've guessed something like Nintendo, where they were making hanafuda cards or... that other thing they did.

Happy anniversary, too! Oddly, I don't think I've ever played a single game on any of my anniversaries; it always just works out that way, for some reason.
